Twins' Byron Buxton: Hip issue forces IL stint

The Twins placed Buxton on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to right hip soreness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Buxton does not have any structural damage as a result of a hip injury he suffered Monday versus the Royals. However, he's had lingering soreness over the past few days, and the Twins have opted to give him some extra rest. He will be eligible to return Aug. 23 and should have a chance to be back on that date, although more will be known about his status in the coming days. Austin Martin and Manuel Margot will pick up extra playing time while Buxton is sidelined, and the Twins could also use Willi Castro more frequently in center field.
