  • Matt McLain 2B | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Absent from lineup

McLain is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Toronto.

McLain had started each of the last nine tilts, but he will begin Friday's festivities on the bench. Juan Brito will handle second base for the Reds, and he'll be situated in the No. 7 slot in the batting order.

  • Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Exiting starting nine

Nunez is not in the lineup for Friday's tilt versus the Mets.

Nunez set a new Nationals record with his 48th and 49th stolen bases in his team's last game Wednesday against the Tigers, but he will begin Friday's series opener on the bench. CJ Abrams will be at shortstop and Jorbit Vivas will handle second base for the Nationals.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | PHI

Phillies' Luis Arraez: Held out with ankle injury

Arraez (ankle) is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest against the Rays.

Arraez had to be helped off the field after suffering a left ankle sprain during Thursday's game versus the Brewers. He has not been placed on the injured list to this point, which is good news, but it remains unclear when Arraez might be able to play again. Bryson Stott will slide back over to second base Friday for the Phillies, and Edmundo Sosa will get the start at third base.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | PHI

Phillies' Luis Arraez: Suffers sprained ankle

Arraez suffered a sprained left ankle during Thursday's contest against the Brewers, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Arraez suffered the injury while trying to avoid being tagged while attempting to beat out a ground ball in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team outlined that he will be further evaluated, and his status moving forward is currently up in the air. More information on his status will likely be provided following the conclusion of Thursday's game.

  • Pedro Ramirez 2B | CHC

Cubs' Pedro Ramirez: Swipes two bags in win

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and a strikeout during Thursday's 2-1 win over the Marlins.

Ramirez stole two bases during Thursday's win, his first bags swiped since Aug. 12 against the Nationals. The 22-year-old has recorded at least one base hit in five of his last six games. This year, Ramirez is slashing .261/.319/.406 with six homers, 32 RBI, nine stolen bases and 20 walks over 258 plate appearances.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Remains out of lineup

Edwards (thumb) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Cubs.

It marks the fourth consecutive absence for Edwards, who is recovering from left thumb discomfort. It's an aggravation of an injury that caused him to miss the first couple weeks of September, so it's no guarantee Edwards will come back to play this season. Jared Serna will cover second back for the Marlins on Thursday.

  • Adael Amador 2B | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Out of Colorado lineup

Amador is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Amador has started every other game across the last seven contests for the Rockies. Prior to that, he had made seven consecutive starts. Connor Norby is handling second base, and Hunter Goodman is getting a day at designated hitter as the Rockies try to avoid the sweep.

  • Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Sets franchise steals record

Nunez went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Tigers.

Getting the start at shortstop and batting ninth, Nunez swiped second and third base after poking a one-out single in the seventh inning, putting himself in position to score the Nationals' final run of the night. In the process, he became the franchise's single-season steals leader with 49, passing the 47 stolen bases CJ Abrams produced in 2023. Nunez is three steals clear of the Rays' Chandler Simpson for the major-league lead, with less than a week remaining on the calendar.

  • JJ Wetherholt 2B | STL

Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt: Three hits in win

Wetherholt went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Pirates.

Wetherholt provided the Cardinals with a steady presence at the plate, reaching base four times and scoring the first run of the game off of a Alec Burleson single. The rookie has gone 6-for-20 (.300) since being activated from the injured list (wrist) on September 16. He's closing out a productive rookie campaign with a .710 OPS, 17 home runs, 14 stolen bases and 51 RBI over 136 games and providing excellent defense at second base.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Pirates' Brandon Lowe: Only run in loss

Lowe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Cardinals

The 32-year-old supplied the only offense for the Pirates when he crushed a Matthew Liberatore pitch nearly into the Allegheny River. This was Lowe's 34th home run of the year, which is his most since the 2021 season when he hit 39 for the Rays. Lowe has been hot in September, slashing .338/.413/.620 with two doubles, six homers, 12 RBI and 12 runs.
