Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Showing signs of improvement
The Mariners said Monday that Donovan's concussion symptoms are starting to improve, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Donovan was placed on the 7-day injured list Sunday after he was struck by a ball in the batting cage over the weekend. He's eligible to be activated Saturday, though he'll have some steps to clear in the protocol before getting the green light to return to action for the Mariners.

Astros' Isaac Paredes: Launches 17th long ball
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Athletics.
Paredes opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before taking Jack Perkins deep for a two-run homer in the fourth. Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Recovering from Grade 2 thumb sprain
McMahon said that he was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain after the Yankees placed him on the 10-day injured list Friday, Randy Miller of NJ.com reports.
McMahon initially thought that he jammed the thumb when he slid into second base during the second inning of Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Orioles, but imaging Friday revealed a moderate sprain. Per MLB.com, manager Aaron Boone said that McMahon has a shot at returning in the minimum 10 days, though the 31-year-old would likely need to resume baseball activities within the next couple of days for that to be a realistic possibility. Jose Caballero and Amed Rosario are expected to share time at third base while McMahon is out.

Nick Loftin 3B | KC
Royals' Nick Loftin: Goes yard in four-RBI effort
Loftin went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, a walk and an additional run scored in Sunday's 11-7 win over the Tigers.
Making his sixth straight start, Loftin piled up a season-high-tying four RBI on Sunday. With Maikel Garcia on the injured list due to a hamstring strain, Loftin has a chance to maintain an everyday role at third base for the time being. For the campaign, the utility player is slashing .238/.332/.387 with a career-high six homers, 20 doubles, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored across 332 plate appearances.

He's gone deep in consecutive contests and has four homers over his last 13 games, a span in which he's hitting .327 (16-for-47) with nine RBI. The infielder secured the first 20-homer season of his career Sunday and has plenty of time to add some more. He's batting .247 with a .735 OPS, 69 RBI, 57 runs scored, 20 doubles, three triples and seven stolen bases over 125 contests this year.

Blaze Alexander 3B | BAL
Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Starting rehab assignment
Alexander (hand) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports.
Alexander has fully recovered from the fracture in his left hand that sent him to the injured list in mid-July, but he's now been cleared for game action. It's unclear how many games the 27-year-old will require during the rehab stint, but he could be back with the Orioles within the next week.

Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA
Mariners' Patrick Wisdom: Returns to majors
The Mariners recalled Wisdom from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Following Brendan Donovan's (concussion) placement on the injured list Sunday, Wisdom will get his first look in the majors since mid-June. The 34-year-old is batting 5-for-41 (.122 average) with one homer and 18 strikeouts in 15 big-league games this season.

Brendan Donovan 3B | SEA
Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Lands on concussion IL
The Mariners placed Donovan on the 7-day injured list Sunday due to a concussion, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
It's another unfortunate injury for the 29-year-old, who was struck in the head by a baseball in the batting cage prior to Saturday's contest. Donovan will be sidelined for at least the next week as he goes through the concussion protocols. Patrick Wisdom is filling the open roster spot, but it's Weston Wilson starting at third base Sunday against the Cubs.

Denzer Guzman 3B | LAA
Angels' Denzer Guzman: Hitting bench Sunday
Guzman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
Vaughn Grissom will draw the start at third base in place of Guzman, who covered the hot corner in the first two contests of the series. Despite handling a near-everyday role, the 22-year-old rookie hasn't provided much to get excited about with a .216/.245/.333 slash line to go with one home run, no steals, seven RBI and six runs through his first 19 games in August.

Max Muncy 3B | ATH
Athletics' Max Muncy: Gaining traction in lineup
Muncy will start at designated hitter and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Astros.
Muncy will stick in the lineup for a sixth straight game after going 3-for-15 with a home run, three walks, three runs and three RBI over the prior five contests. Though he looks to have taken hold of a regular spot in the starting nine with Tyler Soderstrom (hip) lost for the season, Muncy could find himself on the bench more frequently once the Athletics get Denzel Clarke (hamstring) or Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (testicle) back from the injured list.
