Rafaela (quad) is expected to be activated from the injured list Wednesday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Rafaela has been on the injured list since Sept. 6 with a right quad strain and began rehabbing at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. He didn't appear in a rehab game with the WooSox but has been hitting against a Trajekt machine, and the Red Sox now believe he's ready to return and use their final five regular-season games to get back into a rhythm before the postseason.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | HOU

Astros' Daulton Varsho: Nursing wrist injury

Varsho isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Seattle due to a left wrist injury, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Rangers' Michael Helman: Back from 60-day IL

Texas activated Helman (hand) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Helman has not seen game action since June 13, after suffering multiple fractures in his right hand. Before being sidelined, the 30-year-old recorded just 35 plate appearances, slashing .167/.235/.300 with one homer and two RBI. The Rangers transferred Cal Quantrill (lat) to the 60-day IL, clearing a spot for Helman on the active and 40-man rosters.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | HOU

Astros' Daulton Varsho: Out of Tuesday's lineup

For the second straight game, Varsho will exit the starting nine. The Astros will send out Brice Matthews to center field, and he will bat ninth against Logan Gilbert on Tuesday.

  • Carlos Cortes LF | ATH

Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Sitting against southpaw

Cortes is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Angels.

The Angels have southpaw Yusei Kikuchi starting on the mound Tuesday, so the left-handed bat of Cortes will be out of the lineup to begin the game. The Athletics' starting outfielders Tuesday are Henry Bolte, Denzel Clarke and Lawrence Butler.

  • Tristan Peters CF | CHW

White Sox's Tristan Peters: On bench again Tuesday

Peters (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

It's the third straight absence due to a bruised left shoulder for Peters, who sustained the injury on a collision with the outfield wall Friday versus Detroit. Brenton Doyle is picking up another start in center field and is batting seventh against Kansas City lefty Daniel Lynch.

  • Brandon Nimmo RF | TEX

Rangers' Brandon Nimmo: Good to go Tuesday

Nimmo (illness) is starting in right field and batting fifth Tuesday against the Mets.

The veteran outfielder was scratched from the lineup Sunday due to a stomach bug but is ready for action after Monday's team off day. It's been a struggle for Nimmo through 17 games in September, as he has a .227/.292/.288 slash line and 30.6 percent strikeout rate.

  • Max Schuemann LF | NYY

Yankees' Max Schuemann: Optioned off active roster

The Yankees optioned Schuemann to the Florida Complex League on Tuesday.

He's clearing off the active roster in order to make space for the return of Jazz Chisholm (thumb). Schuemann reporting to the Yankees' FCL affiliate allows him to continue working out at the team's spring training complex in case he's needed in the future.

  • Royals' Isaac Collins: Exiting starting lineup

Collins is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

It marks the third time over the last four games that Collins has been out of the lineup, as he could be slipping into a reserve role. Nick Loftin will cover left field for the Royals in Tuesday's series opener.
