Marlins' Griffin Conine: Homers twice in rout
Conine went 2-for-4 with two home runs, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 12-3 win over the Angels.
Conine notched his first career multi-homer effort, going deep in the fifth and eighth innings. The 29-year-old has found his power stroke in the second half, tallying seven home runs in 22 games since the All-Star break. For the season, he's slashing .265/.349/.544 with 12 long balls, 26 RBI, 23 runs scored and two steals across just 166 plate appearances.

Trent Grisham CF | NYY
Yankees' Trent Grisham: Goes deep in loss
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's 2-1, extra-inning loss to Atlanta.
Grisham provided the Yankees' only offense with a game-tying blast in the eighth inning. The 29-year-old has gone just 6-for-29 in eight August contests, though five of those hits have gone for extra bases. On the season, he's slashing .213/.308/.391 with 13 homers, 44 RBI, 56 runs scored and seven steals across 390 plate appearances.

Chandler Simpson LF | TB
Rays' Chandler Simpson: Racks up four more hits
Simpson went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mariners.
This was Simpson's fifth multi-hit effort over his last seven games. The double was also his first extra-base hit since July 24 versus the Guardians. The light-hitting outfielder is batting .304 with a .696 OPS, 31 stolen bases, 23 RBI, 48 runs scored, 12 doubles, six triples and no home runs across 110 contests this season.

Gage Workman 3B | SD
Padres' Gage Workman: Sent down Sunday
Workman was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Workman is the odd man out with the big-league club after the Padres signed Austin Hays to a major-league contract Sunday. Workman had been with the major-league roster since Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI in limited action over two contests. The 26-year-old has the ability to play all over the diamond, so he will be a top candidate to return to the Padres' roster if anyone goes down with an injury.
-
Ian Happ LF | CHC
Cubs' Ian Happ: Homers again Sunday
Happ went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 10-2 win over the Royals.
A day after hitting his 19th home run of the season, Happ followed that up with long ball No. 20. The veteran outfielder has now reached the 20-homer plateau in each of the last four years. Happ's career high in home runs is 25, which he recorded on two different occasions across his 10 years in the majors. With a strong finish to the 2026 campaign, he could be in line to surpass that figure.

Jace LaViolette OF | CLE
Guardians' Jace LaViolette: Promoted to Double-A
LaViolette was promoted to Double-A Akron on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
LaViolette will make the jump to the Double-A level after posting a .238 average with 19 home runs, 69 RBI, 67 runs scored and 11 stolen bases over 332 at-bats in 83 contests with High-A Lake County this season. The 22-year-old was selected 27th overall by Cleveland in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, and he'll now have the chance to prove himself against tougher competition.

Cam Smith RF | HOU
Astros' Cam Smith: Sitting Sunday
Smith is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Smith will head to the bench after he went 3-for-7 with two solo home runs, a walk and three runs scored over the first two games of the series. Taylor Trammell will slot in as Houston's right fielder while LaMonte Wade will enter the lineup in left field in the series finale in San Diego.

Kerry Carpenter RF | DET
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Resumes baseball activities
The Tigers announced Friday that Carpenter (foot) has begun a full progression of hitting, running and playing defense, MLB.com reports.
Carpenter received a cortisone injection July 28 to address right foot plantar fasciitis, and the shot appears to have yielded the desired effect. The 29-year-old has been fitted for orthotic shoes with the hope that it will combat future foot problems as he begins ramping back up for a return from the injured list. Carpenter could be ready to rejoin the Tigers by next weekend if all goes well during his upcoming workouts, though the club may prefer to send him out on a brief minor-league rehab assignment prior to activating him.

Austin Hays LF | SD
Padres' Austin Hays: Finds work in San Diego
Hays agreed to a one-year contract with the Padres on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
After the White Sox activated Hays from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Wednesday, he ended up hitting the open market a few days later upon clearing waivers. The Padres will end up bringing Hays aboard on a low-cost deal with the hope that the 31-year-old can fill the short side of a platoon in the corner outfield, and he could even push into an everyday role if he gets hot at the plate to begin his time in the organization. Hays generated a lowly .576 OPS over 44 plate appearances with the White Sox this season but was productive during a recent 11-game rehab stint at Triple-A Charlotte, slashing .279/.289/.605.

Evan Carter CF | TEX
Rangers' Evan Carter: Taking seat versus southpaw
Carter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
After starting in each of the last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Carter will retreat to the bench Sunday while southpaw Cade Povich toes the slab for the Orioles. Cam Cauley will replace Carter in center field and will bat ninth.
