  • Erick Fedde RP | CHW

White Sox's Erick Fedde: Takes no-decision

Fedde allowed one run on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out six over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Tigers on Thursday.

Fedde came up an out short of qualifying for the win. He threw 52 of 89 pitches for strikes. Over his last six appearances, Fedde has allowed just five runs over 28.2 innings to put together a strong finish to the regular season. He's at a 3.90 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 97:50 K:BB across 138.1 innings over 32 games (15 starts) this season. With Luis Castillo now in the bullpen, Fedde should be in line for one more regular-season start at Kansas City next week.

  • Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Unavailable Thursday due to lat issue

Interim manager Chad Tracy said after Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rangers that Chapman was unavailable due to a lat issue, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Chapman has been dealing with the issue for a couple days, and Tracy said the Red Sox will be "conservative" with the 38-year-old. With the left-hander unavailable Thursday, Garrett Whitlock came on for the save, his fourth of the season. Chapman hasn't pitched since Sunday, when he walked two and struck out three in an inning of work against the Royals to secure his 34th save of 2026. Boston is well positioned to secure a playoff berth soon and is likely to be extra cautious with its closer during the final days of the regular season.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | DET

Tigers' Kyle Finnegan: Hits 15-day IL

The Tigers placed Finnegan on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Wednesday, with left groin inflammation.

Finnegan struggled in his last two outings Monday and Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits with one strikeout across 1.1 frames in Toronto. The veteran right-hander will miss the rest of the regular season and has likely already thrown his last pitch of 2026 since Detroit's playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. In a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled Ty Madden from Triple-A Toledo.

  • Ty Madden RP | DET

Tigers' Ty Madden: Up from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Madden from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

With Kyle Finnegan (groin) moving to the injured list, the Tigers will turn to Madden to replenish their bullpen depth. The 26-year-old has actually been more effective with the big club this season (3.46 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) than he has been in the minors (4.44 ERA, 1.53 WHIP), though he isn't likely to receive many high-leverage opportunities down the stretch.

  • Guardians' Colin Holderman: Set for rehab assignment

The Guardians sent Holderman (wrist) to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday for a rehab assignment.

Holderman has been out with right wrist inflammation since Sept. 4, though he's been battling the injury since mid-August. The right-hander is eligible to return Sept. 19 and would provide a late-season boost for Cleveland's bullpen given his 2.73 ERA through 54 appearances this year.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Rangers' Cal Quantrill: Ready for next turn in rotation

Quantrill said Thursday that his back is fine, and he will make his next scheduled start this weekend against the Blue Jays, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Quantrill pitched through some back tightness during his previous start Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, but the issue no longer looks to be a concern. The Rangers haven't yet announced when the right-hander will take the ball, but he'll likely start Saturday. Quantrill has provided an unexpected boost to the Rangers rotation, contributing a 1.82 ERA over his last nine starts.

  • Mason Barnett RP | ATH

    Athletics' Mason Barnett: Starting Friday

The Athletics will recall Barnett from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Friday's game against the Guardians, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Barnett owns a 7.08 ERA and 1.62 WHIP through 40.2 innings in the majors this season. He hasn't fared much better in four starts since returning to the minors in mid-August (6.97 ERA, 1.84 WHIP), though he delivered a nine-inning, two-run gem for Las Vegas his last time out Saturday. He'll be welcomed back to the big leagues by a Guardians lineup that's been trending upward while posting a .748 OPS over its last 10 games.

  • Brooks Kriske RP | ATH

Athletics' Brooks Kriske: Done for season after surgery

The Athletics announced that Kriske underwent season-ending surgery Sept. 1 to address a right shoulder impingement, MLB.com reports.

The 32-year-old righty made just two relief appearances for the Athletics before landing on the injured list May 13 due to the shoulder injury. After making limited progress over the past few months while he worked his way through a throwing program, Kriske eventually opted for surgery to address the injury. He'll likely be a non-tender candidate heading into the upcoming offseason.

  • Rangers' Tyler Alexander: Working as opener Thursday

Alexander will serve as the Rangers' opening pitcher during Thursday's game against the Red Sox.

Alexander will draw his fifth opening assignment of the season after beginning September by allowing three earned runs across 7.1 innings. He'll likely remain in the game for an inning or two before Cody Bradford presumably takes over in bulk relief.

  • Royals' Daniel Lynch: Collects second straight win

Lynch (6-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over the Astros, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts over five scoreless innings.

Lynch delivered his first scoreless outing since joining the Kansas City rotation on August 7. It's the second consecutive victory for the 29-year-old, who has pitched exactly five frames in each of his past three outings while giving up seven runs with a 6:4 K:BB. As a starter this season, he has a 5.28 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB over 30.2 innings across eight starts. The left-hander next lines up to take the mound against the White Sox.
