  • CJ Van Eyk RP | TOR

Blue Jays' CJ Van Eyk: Recalled from Triple-A

The Blue Jays recalled Van Eyk from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Van Eyk will join Chase Lee in moving to Toronto's bullpen to make up for the loss of Dylan Cease (shoulder) and Jose Rodriguez. Van Eyk has allowed three earned runs on 11 hits and two walks during his time with the Jays this season and will likely be limited to low-leverage work in the majors.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Sitting for nightcap

Guerrero is not in the starting lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

The Blue Jays were officially eliminated from postseason contention with a loss in the matinee, and Guerrero will rest for the nightcap. The slugging first baseman, who went 1-for-4 with a double in Game 1, is in danger of finishing the year with an OPS below .700, after closing the 2025 regular season with an .848 mark.

  • Chase Lee RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Chase Lee: Up from Buffalo

The Blue Jays recalled Lee from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

With Dylan Cease (shoulder) landing on the injured list and Jose Rodriguez moving off the active roster, Lee will come up from the minors to replenish Toronto's bullpen depth. The 28-year-old has turned in a 2.01 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 53.2 innings in the minors this year but will likely be limited to low-leverage work with the Jays after coughing up seven earned runs in just eight MLB frames.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Done for season

The Blue Jays placed Cease on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation.

The Blue Jays have already confirmed that Cease's shoulder will not require surgery, but with less than a week remaining in the regular season and Toronto out of the race for a wild-card spot, the 30-year-old's move to the injured list will officially end his season. He enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his career during his first year in Toronto, registering a 2.40 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while striking out a career-high 239 batters in 169 innings (29 starts).

  • Trey Gibson SP | BAL

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Officially recalled ahead of start

The Orioles recalled Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk in between games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. Gibson will start the second game of the twin bill.

Gibson returns for his eighth start (ninth appearance) for Baltimore this season. The 24-year-old right-hander has mostly struggled between Triple-A and the majors in 2026, though he finished his campaign with Norfolk on a high note, tossing five innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts against Charlotte on Sept. 18.

  • Luis De Leon SP | BAL

Orioles' Luis De Leon: Optioned Wednesday

The Orioles optioned De Leon to their spring training complex Wednesday.

De Leon recorded one strikeout and allowed two hits without conceding a run over two-thirds of an inning during the first game of Wednesday's twin bill against Toronto. He'll now be pushed off the active roster to make room for Trey Gibson, who was recalled to start the nightcap.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Not expected back during regular season

Crochet (lat) is not expected to pitch again before the end of the regular season, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox had been leaving the door open for Crochet to pitch out of the big-league bullpen before the end of the regular season. Instead, he will throw another live BP session this weekend as he makes his case for the wild-card roster.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Taking live BP

Stanton (calf) is taking live batting practice at Double-A Somerset with the possibility of being available in some capacity for next week's AL Wild Card Series, David Lennon of Newsday reports.

Stanton will close the regular season on the 60-day injured list after straining his left calf in August while rehabbing a right calf strain. Despite the ongoing injury issues, it sounds like Stanton could serve as the designated hitter or perhaps as a bench bat during the first round of the playoffs. Aaron Judge (calf) is not expected to be ready for the wild-card round.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: On bench Wednesday

Diaz is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

The Rays are starting most of their regulars, Diaz notwithstanding, even after clinching the division and home-field advantage through the ALCS with a win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Victor Mesa will get a turn in the leadoff spot as Jonathan Aranda starts at DH and Ryan Vilade mans first base against right-hander Gerrit Cole.

  • Trey Gibson SP | BAL

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Starting nightcap Wednesday

Gibson will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The move is not yet official, and lineups for Game 2 are still pending, but Gibson might face a slightly lesser Toronto lineup after the Blue Jays were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a loss in the matinee. Gibson should nonetheless be considered a high-risk option given his mediocre numbers both in the majors (7.36 ERA, 1.91 WHIP) and at Norfolk (4.32 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) this season.
