At least until we get to the NFL Draft, two of the biggest winners from NFL Free Agency appear to be Mitchell Trubisky and Marcus Mariota. That's because they have gone from backups to Week 1 starters for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons. Now to figure out if that means anything at all to Dynasty Fantasy Football managers.

The first answer is that, in a two-quarterback or Superflex league, of course it does. Any starting quarterback with a pulse is a must-roster player in that format and that even includes Drew Lock if Seattle doesn't trade for Baker Mayfield. As to whether Trubisky and Mariota will be starters in that format, it seems likely if they start for their own teams.

Trubisky's last stretch as a starter sure made it look like he could still be a viable Fantasy asset. From Week 12-17 in 2020, he completed 70% of his passes and averaged 20.4 Fantasy points per game. Only 11 other quarterbacks scored more Fantasy points than him in that stretch. Considering he was also QB18 from Weeks 1-3 that same season (and QB15 for the entirety of 2018), it's not hard to see why people view him as a solid QB2. He has been remarkably consistent at around 20 Fantasy points per game since his second year in the league.

Mariota's projections are a bit more difficult. For one thing, he hasn't started a game in the NFL since Week 6 of the 2019 season. But, despite losing his job to Ryan Tannehill after those six games, Mariota was QB13 through the first five weeks of that season. But you have to go all the way back to 2016 to find a top-12 performance over a full season.

The other big difference is that right now Trubisky has Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, Najee Harris, and Pat Freiermuth. That's at least an average set of weapons in today's NFL, if not slightly above average. Mariota currently has Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Olamide Zaccheaus to work with.

Still, you'll find these two reclamation projects in the same tier below. Both with the upside to give you a top-15 season this year and the risk that they could be supplanted as early as the NFL Draft. If I had either in a league where they currently held value, I'd be looking to see if I could get something for either before the NFL Draft. But if they survive the draft, there's reason to hope either could be a contributor this year.
