Giants' Aldrick Rosas: Drawing praise over offseason

Rosas has impressed the Giants brass during the offseason and looks poised to enter training camp as the team's top kicker, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. "He's got nice size, a nice strong leg and he's been highly accurate since he's been here," special teams coach Tom Quinn said of Rosas last week. "He's very coachable, so he's been very good to work with. We've only had a couple of weeks that we've been able to get him out here with a snap and hold."

When the Giants signed the Southern Oregon product to a reserve/future contract in January, it was expected that he'd be more of a training-camp body than a serious candidate to assume kicking duties in the 2017 season. However, with incumbent kicker Robbie Gould not retained and the Giants opting not to address the position in the draft or free agency, Rosas suddenly looks like a good bet to crack the 53-man roster, despite his lack of prior NFL experience. Unlike Gould and Josh Brown before him, Rosas offers a big leg to the Giants' kicking game, and the consistency with which he's hit field goals so far in offseason workouts has helped assuage some of the concerns the organization had about his accuracy. Given his lack of track record at the professional level, Rosas will still need a strong preseason to solidify his spot with the Giants, but the 22-year-old could carry some intrigue as a final-round flier in fantasy drafts while he supports what could be a potent Giants offense.
