Carter will be joined by rookie second-round pick Breece Hall in New York's backfield, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports. Hall was the first running back selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, as the Jets traded up two spots in the second round to grab him 36th overall. The Iowa State product is capable of playing a three-down role, but there still should be plenty of touches left over for Carter working alongside Hall. Carter proved capable of excelling in a timeshare while in college, as he topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his final two years at UNC, despite splitting carries with Javonte Williams.

Carter carried the ball nine times for 19 yards and failed to catch any of his three targets in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Bills. The Jets' offense couldn't get much going on the ground or through the air in their season finale, and Zach Wilson ended up being the team's leading rusher with 24 yards. Carter showed flashes of upside in his first NFL campaign, finishing with 964 scrimmage yards through 14 games, and barring a significant offseason addition, he should be the primary option in the Jets' backfield in 2022.

Carter (concussion) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bills after practicing fully Thursday and Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. With Carter, who was forced out of last Sunday's game against the Buccaneers due to a concussion, having been cleared for Week 18 action, he's in line to head the Jets' backfield this weekend against the Bills, with Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and Austin Walter also candidates to mix in. The 2021 fourth-rounder will look to finish his rookie season on a high note while facing a Buffalo defense that's allowing an average of 113.6 rushing yards per game.

Carter (concussion) returned to a full practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. That's a big step in the right direction for the running back, who was a non-participant Wednesday. Friday's injury report will reveal whether Carter heads into the weekend minus a Week 18 injury designation, which hinges on him fully clearing the NFL's concussion protocol. If he does, he'd be in line to head the Jets backfield Sunday against the Bills, with Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and Austin Walter also candidates to mix in.

Carter (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, but the Jets are optimistic he could play this Sunday against the Bills, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that Carter did some work on a side field Wednesday, suggesting he's already making progress through the NFL concussion protocol. The rookie got off to fast start in Sunday's 28-24 loss to Tampa Bay, ripping off a 50-yard run in the first quarter before a concussion forced him out of the game. Head Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Carter is "progressing well" and is expected back soon.
