  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Sits out Wednesday's practice

Spears (knee) didn't practice Wednesday. After he sat out last week's loss to the Browns, Spears' absence to kick off Week 8 prep doesn't inspire much early confidence in his chances of playing this weekend against the Bengals. Tony Pollard took on a workhorse role while Spears was sidelined in Week 7 and could be ticketed for another sizable workload if Spears needs to miss another game.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Inactive for Sunday's game

Spears (knee) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Browns. Beginning during Week 3 prep, Spears has experienced practice restrictions most weeks due to first an ankle injury and currently a knee issue. He's been able to suit up for each of the last four games but played second fiddle to Tony Pollard out of the Titans backfield, turning eight carries and 11 catches (on as many targets) into 47 yards from scrimmage. Now that Spears is confirmed to be unavailable, though, the active RBs behind Pollard on Sunday are Julius Chestnut, Michael Carter and Kalel Mullings.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Questionable for Week 7

Spears (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. Spears has been a mainstay on the Titans' injury report over the past few weeks due to ankle and knee issues. He put together a DNP-FP-LP practice log during Week 7 prep, but he has yet to miss a regular-season game. That said, Spears has seen minimal usage on offense this season, and his role figures to be limited unless lead back Tony Pollard were to miss time.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Held out for rest Wednesday

The Titans listed Spears as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice due to rest, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports. Spears had made appearances on Titans injury reports in three of the past four weeks due to ankle and knee concerns, but his absence to begin Week 7 prep was just a planned maintenance day. The fourth-year back should be ready to go for the Titans' next game against the Browns on Sunday, when he'll handle a change-of-pace role behind lead runner Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Spectator to begin practice week

Titans head coach Robert Saleh said that Spears won't participate in Wednesday's practice, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports. An explanation for Spears' absence won't be known until the Titans post their first Week 7 injury report later Wednesday, but the running back had previously been listed with ankle and knee issues over the last few weeks. He's managed to play in all six of the Titans' games to date, but he's played fewer than half of the offensive snaps in the last five of those contests while accounting for 54 yards on 15 carries and 63 yards on 13 receptions. He looks like he'll have to settle for a low-usage change-of-pace role so long as lead back Tony Pollard is available.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Two touches in win

Spears rushed once for one yard while reeling in his only target for seven yards during Sunday's 26-20 win over Indianapolis. Spears was dealing with a knee injury throughout the week before ultimately being active in Week 6. The running back registered a season-low two touches in the contest, and he has now compiled 13 rushing yards on eight carries over the last four games combined. Spears will continue to be an unappealing fantasy option as a long as starting running back Tony Pollard is available for Tennessee.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Listed as questionable

Spears (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. After being limited Wednesday and then sitting out Thursday's practice, Spears now carries a questionable tag into the weekend. He returned to full participation Friday, which suggests he's on track to be active ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Sits out practice Thursday

Spears (knee) didn't practice Thursday. Spears is trending in the wrong direction, as he was unable to practice in any capacity Thursday after being listed as limited Wednesday. Meanwhile, lead back Tony Pollard ramped back up to full participation Thursday after receiving a rest day Wednesday. Spears is coming off a nine-catch performance in the Week 5 loss to Houston, but he may not get a chance to capitalize on Sunday's matchup against a Colts defense that's allowing a league-high 52.8 receiving yards per game to running backs.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Totals six yards in Week 4 loss

Spears turned two carries into seven yards and hauled in his lone target for minus-one yard during the Titans' 24-18 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. Spears played a total of 23 offensive snaps Sunday, which was behind starter Tony Pollard (34) and rookie Nicholas Singleton (eight). Still, Spears' three touches were far behind Pollard's 20 (16 carries, four catches), while Singleton ended up with one more carry than Spears. It looks like Spears will have a tough time seeing a sizable and consistent workload in the Titans' offensive gameplan unless Pollard were to miss time, though the veteran running back is a name to watch ahead of the trade deadline due to him being in the final year of his contract, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Tennessee will face Houston in Week 5, with both teams looking to earn their first win of the 2026 season.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: In line to play in Week 4

Spears (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Baltimore, is slated to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Spears was able to play through his ankle injury last Sunday at the Giants, and while he earned a 47 percent snap share, he mustered just three carries for five yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game. Fellow RB Tony Pollard handled the other 53 percent and turned his 21 touches into 96 yards from scrimmage. Considering Spears progressed from DNP on Wednesday to limited Thursday and full Friday, he appears set to serve in a similar role alongside Pollard on Sunday, assuming the former is active.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Questionable for Week 4

Spears (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. Despite Spears upgrading to a full practice Friday, the Titans aren't yet ready to clear him for Sunday's contest. It would still be somewhat of a shock if he didn't play after coach Robert Saleh has said all week he's optimistic Spears can go versus Baltimore. The running back has minimal fantasy appeal in this Tennessee offense behind clear lead back Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Limited participant Thursday

Spears (ankle) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice. In addition to being stuck behind Tony Pollard on the depth chart, Spears is also the less healthy of Tennessee's top two running backs, as Pollard returned to practice without limitations Thursday after both sat out Wednesday. Spears played through a questionable designation against the Giants in Week 3 but handled just three touches. Barring an upgrade to full participation Friday, Spears looks likely to remain questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Sees little action in Week 3 loss

Spears (ankle) turned three carries into five yards during the Titans' 12-7 loss to the Giants on Sunday. The lack of offensive touches are likely due to an ankle injury that Spears aggravated during Sunday's loss. The fourth-year running back was cleared to return, but his carries were well behind backfield mate Tony Pollard (17), with Spears not seeing a target from Cam Ward. Spears' ankle issue is worth monitoring heading into Week 4 against the Ravens on Sunday, Oct. 4, as his absence would open up the door to playing time for rookie fifth-rounder Nicholas Singleton.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Active Sunday

Spears (ankle) is listed as active Sunday at the Giants, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. The Titans backfield hosted two injuries this week, and while Tony Pollard (ankle) got back to a full practice Friday, Spears logged only one limited session (also Friday) and ended up listed as questionable for Week 3 action. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Sunday morning that Tennessee were set to monitor Spears pregame, with rainy and windy conditions likely to play a role in whether or not to make the running back active. Now that Spears is available to the offense, it's unclear if he'll merely be available in case of emergency, with Pollard and potentially rookie fifth-rounder Nicholas Singleton handling most of the RB reps.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Listed questionable for Sunday

Spears (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants, Turron Davenport of ESPN reports. Spears returned to practice Friday as a limited participant after sitting out the previous two days. Tony Pollard, meanwhile, upgraded to full participation at the end of the week and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game. Even if Spears ends up playing, he won't have much fantasy appeal when he's the less healthy of two RBs in a backfield that hasn't been productive so far. The Titans and Giants are schedule for an early kickoff Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Limited in Friday's practice

Spears (ankle) was listed as limited for Friday's practice, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider reports. Spears didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but a return to limited participation at the end of the week suggests he has a shot to play this Sunday against Cleveland. Fellow Titans running back Tony Pollard (ankle) is upgrading to full participation Friday, so he appears ready to start and take most of the carries.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 3 Waiver Priority List

Spears played better in Week 2 against the Eagles with seven carries for 41 yards and two catches for 29 yards on two targets than he did in Week 1 against the Jets, when he had three carries for 12 yards and two catches for 12 yards on four targets. Tony Pollard remains the lead running back for the Titans, and Spears only played 36 percent of the snaps against Philadelphia. While I don't want to invest heavily in Tennessee's offense, Spears can be stashed on your bench for 1 percent of your remaining FAAB.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Logs 70 yards against Philadelphia

Spears turned seven carries into 41 yards and brought in both of his targets for 29 yards during the Titans' 24-20 loss to the Eagles on Sunday. Spears was on the field for only 19 of the Titans' 53 offensive snaps (35.8 percent) and saw noticeably less playing time than lead back Tony Pollard (29 snaps). That said, Spears managed to accumulate 70 yards on nine touches, his most yards in a game since Week 16 of the 2025 season against the Chiefs (105). The fourth-year pro also helped the Titans take the lead late with a 27-yard carry on third-and-22, ultimately leading to a 33-yard field goal from Joey Slye four plays later. The Titans will hit the road for the first time this season Week 3 against the Giants.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Totals 24 yards in Week 1 loss

Spears rushed three times for 12 yards and caught two of four targets for an additional 12 yards in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Jets. Tony Pollard narrowly out-snapped Spears, 26-25, in the season opener, as the former out-carried Spears seven to three in what was a decidedly negative game script for the Titans. Spears out-targeted his backfield mate four to two and ran 14 routes to Pollard's seven. This looks like a pretty even split, but it'll be tough for either back to produce weekly fantasy reliability in one of the league's worst offenses with a swinging-gate offensive line.
... See More ... See Less
  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Role seemingly unchanged from 2025

Spears is among the four running backs that made the Titans' initial 53-man roster. Based on preseason usage, Spears is firmly entrenched as the team's top alternative to Tony Pollard in the backfield. Spears produced 536 scrimmage yards in 2024 and 547 scrimmage yards in 2025 while filling such a role. His 838-yard rookie season in 2023 came prior to Pollard's arrival in Tennessee. Rookie fifth-round pick Nicholas Singleton didn't show anything during preseason action that would indicate he's an immediate threat to Spears' role, while Julius Chestnut is likely ticketed for a role on special teams.
