After he sat out last week's loss to the Browns, Spears' absence to kick off Week 8 prep doesn't inspire much early confidence in his chances of playing this weekend against the Bengals. Beginning during Week 3 prep, Spears has experienced practice restrictions most weeks due to first an ankle injury and currently a knee issue. He's been able to suit up for each of the last four games but played second fiddle to Tony Pollard out of the Titans backfield, turning eight carries and 11 catches (on as many targets) into 47 yards from scrimmage. Now that Spears is confirmed to be unavailable, though, the active RBs behind Pollard on Sunday are Julius Chestnut, Michael Carter and Kalel Mullings.

An explanation for Spears' absence won't be known until the Titans post their first Week 7 injury report later Wednesday, but the running back had previously been listed with ankle and knee issues over the last few weeks. He's managed to play in all six of the Titans' games to date, but he's played fewer than half of the offensive snaps in the last five of those contests while accounting for 54 yards on 15 carries and 63 yards on 13 receptions. He looks like he'll have to settle for a low-usage change-of-pace role so long as lead back Tony Pollard is available.

Spears rushed once for one yard while reeling in his only target for seven yards during Sunday's 26-20 win over Indianapolis.
Spears was dealing with a knee injury throughout the week before ultimately being active in Week 6. The running back registered a season-low two touches in the contest, and he has now compiled 13 rushing yards on eight carries over the last four games combined. Spears will continue to be an unappealing fantasy option as a long as starting running back Tony Pollard is available for Tennessee.
