DeAngelo, as expected, was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Friday for the purpose of buying out his contract, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.
DeAngelo was waived by the team back in February following a postgame altercation with a teammate and hasn't played a single game for the organization since. At this point, it's hard to see another NHL team taking a risk on the 25-year-old blueliner despite the fact that he racked up an impressive 53 points in 68 games for the Rangers back in 2019-20. Still, once his contract is bought out, perhaps the prospect of getting DeAngelo at a significant discount compared to his current $4.8 million cap hit could keep him playing in the NHL.
