Ovechkin scored twice on seven shots, once on the power play and the other into an empty net, in Friday's 3-1 win over the Red Wings.

Ovechkin's first goal came in the final second of a power play late in the third period. That tally was his 275th power-play marker, besting Dave Andreychuk for the all-time NHL record. The Great Eight then added an empty-netter to seal the Capitals' win. On top of the record he set, he also became the third player to reach 50 points this season, doing so with 24 goals and 26 helpers in 33 contests. Only 11 of his points have come with the man advantage this year -- he could up the scoring pace a bit if the Capitals can improve on their 15.2 percent success rate on the power play.
