Sgarbossa was called up by Washington on Wednesday, Samantha Pell of The Washington Post reports.
Sgarbossa provides insurance for the Capitals in case Conor Sheary (lower body) is unable to return for Wednesday's game against the Canadiens. The 29-year-old forward has eight goals and 14 points in 15 games with AHL Hershey this season.
