Svechnikov agreed to terms on an eight-year, $62 million contract with Carolina on Thursday.

Over the course of his entry-level contract, Svechnikov has racked up 59 goals and 81 assists in 205 games, so his massive pay increase ($7.75 million AAV) shouldn't come as a surprise. With a max-term deal, the Hurricanes have locked up the 21-year-old winger through the 2028-29 campaign, at which point his annual cap hit could look like a steal, especially if he continues to progress. While Svechnikov did miss the 20-goal mark last year, there is no reason to think he can't get back over that threshold with a full 82-game season in 2021-22.
