Carpenter will rejoin the Rangers after Julien Gauthier (upper body) was placed on IR. Carpenter will likely serve as an extra forward against Montreal on Sunday, though he could move into a fourth-line role. The 31-year-old center has a goal and two assists in 21 games with New York this season.
