Last we heard from Jamie Moyer, he was released by the Blue Jays (the third MLB team to do so in the 2012 season). Still, we haven't officially heard the "r" word from Moyer, meaning another attempted comeback is possible in 2013.
And if that happens, he'll do so at the age of 50. Moyer was born on Nov. 18, 1962, so Sunday is his 50th birthday.
If Moyer were to make an appearance next season, he'd join Jack Quinn (50 years old in 1933) and Satchel Paige (59 years old in 1965) as the only pitchers to ever appear in the bigs after their 50th birthday. And Quinn's last appearance was just six days after he turned 50, so Moyer would only trail Hall of Famer and Negro League legend Paige in terms of the oldest pitchers ever.
The chances of that happening aren't very good, however, in looking at what happened last season. Moyer went 2-5 with a 5.70 ERA and coughed up 75 hits in just 53 2/3 innings before the Rockies designated him for assignment. He then fared well for Triple-A Norfolk (Orioles' affiliate) with a 1.69 ERA in three starts, but the Orioles released him, anyway. Moyer then had an 8.18 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas (Blue Jays' system at the time) before being released.
