The Colorado Rockies have agreed to sign free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported. The 34-year-old catcher hit .227/.293/.330 with four homers in 218 plate appearances for the Rangers, Blue Jays and Brewers last season. He's a .257/.316/.386 hitter in 12 big-league seasons.
Torrealba joins Ramon Hernandez and Wilin Rosario as catchers on the Colorado roster.
Rosario, 23, hit .270 with 28 homers last season, earning him a fourth-place finish in the NL Rookie if the Year voting. He figures to open next year as the team's starting backstop. The 36-year-old Hernandez and his $3.2 million salary could wind up as trade bait. He hit just .217 in 2012 while battling injuries.
