  Atlanta exercised Acuna's $17 million club option for the 2027 season Thursday. Acuna has been playing on one of the most team-friendly contracts in baseball since 2019, and although his .255/.345/.451 regular-season slash line was a bit of a step back from 2025, Atlanta has no interest in parting with their franchise superstar early. The 28-year-old missed nearly seven weeks in the middle of the summer due to a hamstring strain and dealt with knee soreness during the postseason, but assuming he comes back fully healthy in 2027, he will remain among the top tier of fantasy performers.

• Braves' Ronald Acuna: Back in right field after clean MRI

  Acuna underwent an MRI on his right knee after Tuesday's NLDS Game 3 loss to the Dodgers, which came back negative, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports. Acuna experienced lingering soreness in the knee after tweaking it on a stolen base in Sunday's Game 2 win for Atlanta. He was deployed at designated hitter in Game 3, but Acuna is back in right field for Game 4 after imaging returned clean. Drake Baldwin will slot in at DH on Wednesday, while Sean Murphy will do the catching.

• Braves' Ronald Acuna: Playing with knee soreness

  Acuna is starting at designated hitter rather than right field in Tuesday's ALDS Game 3 versus the Dodgers due to a sore right knee, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Acuna remains sore after banging up his knee on a slide Sunday in Game 3, so Atlanta will ease the stress on him a bit by inserting him into the DH slot.   Acuna went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 9-0 rout of the Nationals. The seventh-inning long ball off Max Kranick was Acuna's 14th of the season, while the steal was his 20th, but it's the homer that put his name in the record books as the 200th of his career. The star outfielder reached that mark in just 904 games, and combined with his 225 stolen bases, he became the fastest player in MLB history to join the 200-200 club, surpassing Alfonso Soriano's record of 929 games. Per Ian Nicholas Quillen of MLB.com, the next four names on the list are just as impressive -- Eric Davis (1,053 games), Bobby Bonds (1,065), Sammy Sosa (1,094) and Barry Bonds (1,094). Acuna has had a tough, injury-plagued season overall, but he's catching fire for the stretch run, batting .455 (10-for-22) over his last six contests with a homer, two steals, four RBI and six runs.

Acuna is currently sitting at a career low in batting average (.235) and has a .748 OPS in 361 plate appearances, but perhaps Friday's performance is a sign the veteran outfielder will find another gear for the stretch run.

Acuna's homers weren't exactly moonshots -- one was the result of two Marlins outfielders colliding and knocking the ball over the wall, and the other traveled an estimated 337 feet -- but they counted all the same. It was the second multi-homer game of the season for the star outfielder and the 16th time he's achieved the feat in his career. Acuna is slashing .244/.358/.436 with 11 home runs, 27 RBI, 39 runs and 15 stolen bases through 63 contests on the campaign.

"He's still got some days ahead of him," Weiss said. "We just want to make sure he doesn't have to try to figure it out or struggle up here. A guy like Acuna... moves the needle for our team. But we have to use good judgment there." Acuna is now five games into a rehab assignment and has gone 2-for-12 with a home run and 4:3 BB:K between stops in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Triple-A Gwinnett. After serving as a designated hitter in the first four contests, Acuna played right field for the first time Sunday with Gwinnett, and the organization could keep the five-time All-Star at Triple-A for a few more games in order to pick up more defensive reps. Until Acuna is deemed ready to rejoin the big club, Atlanta will get by with a combination of Brewer Hicklen and Eli White in right field.
