Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green to headline UFC Fight Night event after Beneil Dariush suffers injury
Green will replace Dariush on short notice in a five-round catchweight main event at UFC Fight Night

Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green is your new UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday, Feb. 26. The updated pairing comes shortly after news broke that Beneil Dariush was forced out of the headlining slot with an injury.
Fans were clamoring for Green to get the main event rub after boxing up Nasrat Haqparast on the main card of UFC 271. Their wish was granted in an unexpected way as Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday that Dariush was forced off the card with an ankle injury. ESPN's Brett Okamoto subsequently reported that Green would step in for Dariush. Makhachev vs. Green will be contested as a five-round fight at a catchweight of 160 pounds.
Makhachev (21-1) is on the precipice of a major leap in the UFC lightweight division following nine consecutive wins. Makhachev vs. Dariush was considered by many as a title eliminator fight. The Dagestani fighter, who trains with former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is coming off a trio of submission wins over Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises and Drew Dober.
Green (29-12-1) will make the 14-day turnaround following a unanimous decision win over Haqparast. The fan-friendly striker is on a two-fight winning streak after beating Haqprast and stopping Al Iaquinta at UFC 268 in November. Other notable wins on his record include Clay Guida, Josh Thomson and James Krause.
The UFC Fight Night card takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
