  • Magic's Paolo Banchero: Finished with Summer League

Banchero will not be active for Orlando's remaining two Summer League games, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports.

The No. 1 overall pick shined across his first two professional appearances, averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. The Magic will now look to get other players involved in their remaining two Summer League games while Banchero rests on the sidelines. The Magic made it clear that the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is not dealing with an injury.

  • Magic's Paolo Banchero: Another strong performance

Banchero finished Saturday's double-overtime Summer League victory over the Kings with 23 points (6-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 11-15 FT), six rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks in 35 minutes.

Banchero was physically overpowering at times, getting to the free-throw line for an impressive 15 attempts. While his eight turnovers certainly detract from the effort, he helped make up for it defensively with his four steals and two blocks. Up next for Banchero and the Magic is a high-profile matchup against Chet Holmgren and the Thunder on Monday.

  • Magic's Paolo Banchero: Debuts with 17 points, six assists

Banchero finished Thursday night's Las Vegas Summer League game against the Rockets with 17 points (5-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six assists, four rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes.

Overall, it was an encouraging debut for the No. 1 overall pick, who helped lead the Magic to a 91-77 victory over Jabari Smith and the Rockets. Banchero drilled a pair of three-pointers and was active as a playmaker while finishing as a game-best plus-20 in 26 minutes. Banchero did commit two turnovers and six fouls, but that's nothing out of the ordinary for a summer league contest. Orlando will be back in action Saturday against Keegan Murray and the Sacramento Kings.

  • Magic's Paolo Banchero: Goes No. 1 overall to Orlando

Banchero was selected by the Magic with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

While Auburn's Jabari Smith was considered the favorite to be the top pick in the weeks leading up to the draft, the Magic played things close to the vest and ultimately opted to go with Banchero. The 6-foot-10 freshman is coming off of a fantastic 2021-22 season at Duke in which he posted 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks in 39 games. A big-bodied playmaker who's comfortable handling the ball and creating for others, Banchero figures to emerge as the focal point of the Magic's ongoing rebuild. At present, Orlando's roster is stocked with depth up front, but Banchero is capable of playing both forward spots and will likely start alongside one of last year's first-round picks, Franz Wagner, to begin the 2022-23 season.
