Hornets' Coby White: Suffers calf strain, won't play in preseason
The Hornets announced Monday that White suffered a left calf strain during training camp and will not play during the preseason.
White missed time with a left calf strain last season and is now in jeopardy of starting the regular season on the inactive list. If the 26-year-old guard is forced to miss time beyond the preseason, Christian Anderson and Dennis Schroder would likely see increased playing time.

Hornets' Coby White: Ready for new role
White said Monday that he wanted to return to the Hornets to take on the challenge of a new role, and he's "excited" for the road ahead, Owen O'Connor of SI.com reports.
After trading away LaMelo Ball, the Hornets signed White to a three-year, $74 million deal this offseason. The veteran guard was traded from Chicago to Charlotte last February and provided a spark off the bench for the Hornets in 2025-26, though he's now expected to step into a starting role. In 21 regular-season games with Charlotte last season, he averaged 15.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists across 19.3 minutes per game.

Hornets' Coby White: To sign three-year deal
White will sign a three-year, $74 million contract with the Hornets, Shams Charania of ESPN reports on Thursday.
The Hornets will quickly lock up White after trading away starting point guard LaMelo Ball to Minnesota earlier in the day. White becomes the starter by default in Charlotte and is likely to see a big uptick in fantasy appeal. In 21 regular-season appearances for Charlotte in 2025-26, White averaged 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 three-pointers in 25.0 minutes per contest.

Hornets' Coby White: Good chance to stay in Charlotte?
Retaining White will be a priority for the Hornets this offseason, Bobby Marks of ESPN reports.
White will be free to test the open market in the offseason, although Charlotte will look re-sign him. After trading for White ahead of the deadline, Charlotte inherited his Bird rights, enabling the team to exceed the salary cap to retain him. Considering the club will be operating well below the luxury tax while possessing three trade exceptions valued at a combined $17.5 million, Marks added that the franchise is in a "strong position" to keep the former Bull on the roster. White appeared in 21 regular-season contests for the Hornets after being acquired from Chicago -- all off the bench -- averaging 15.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 39.1 percent from deep in those appearances. It's unknown what his role would be if he remained with the organization. However, his biggest issue in the last few seasons has been his inability to stay healthy.

Hornets' Coby White: Saves worst for last
White finished Friday's 121-90 Play-In Game loss to Orlando with four points (1-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) over 17 minutes.
White had easily his worst game as a Hornet, contributing to what ended up being a blowout loss. Despite averaging 15.3 points, 2.9 assists and 2.1 three-pointers in 23 games after joining Charlotte, it's safe to say that White's overall fantasy appeal took a large hit following the trade. Looking ahead to next season, White could struggle to be more than a stream-level asset, assuming his role remains largely unchanged.
