Cris Carter thinks Chandler Jones was smoking 'marijuana laced with PCP'
Cris Carter issued a pretty aggressive claim against Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones on Friday.
There's a whole lot of weirdness to the story about Chandler Jones showing up to the police station last weekend and ending up going to the hospital. Reports indicate he was smoking synthetic marijuana and Jones apologized for making a "stupid mistake."
But there hasn't been any mention of something more serious, at least until former NFL receiver and ESPN analyst Cris Carter went on Mike & Mike and said, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, he thinks Jones was smoking "PCP and angel dust."
"I think that the synthetic marijuana might be just a story. Just for me it doesn’t pass the smell test for me. I think he was smoking marijuana and I think he was smoking some marijuana laced with PCP or angel dust. And that’s what made him freak out," Carter said. "Now, he could have been smoking synthetic, but it’s a better story -- it’s a better story to tell: ‘That’s the reason I’m here.’ So when he got to the police station, why was he smelling like marijuana? Because synthetic doesn’t smell like marijuana. So for me, I don’t know all the details of the case, but I’m just a little -- uh, the synthetic, that’s a better way to put it."

There's no way to definitively prove Carter wrong, but this kind of rampant speculation is questionable at best.
Carter basically doubled down by invoking the name of former Patriots tight end and current inmate Aaron Hernandez.
“If you look at -- this is not the same thing, so don’t freak out on me, people -- but Aaron Hernandez, if you look at what was some of the things they started looking at with him? At the end, he was smoking marijuana laced with PCP," Carter said. "And that’s when the people around him said you can start to see, it started making a difference in his decision making. So, did he have that? No. I’m just trying to tell you what I believe could be the end result, because that’s what happens."
No one knows what happened with Jones' situation (except maybe Jones). But speculating about Jones smoking PCP or angel dust and comparing his situation to Aaron Hernandez feels wildly irresponsible given the lack of knowledge around the incident.
