Pete Carroll expects open competition at QB for Seahawks: 'We're definitely still in the quarterback business'
The Seahawks have two quarterbacks on the active roster since the Russell Wilson trade

Looking for a starting quarterback hasn't been the norm in the Seattle Seahawks organization, thanks to the incredible success of Russell Wilson for a decade. The Seahawks moved on from Wilson this offseason, acquiring Drew Lock and a bunch of picks/players in the blockbuster deal.
Though the Seahawks have Lock, the franchise is still open to adding to the quarterback room. Lock and Jacob Eason are the only active quarterbacks on the roster.
"I'm going to look at this thing very much like we did years ago and structure it so everybody gets a great shot at it as best we can," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said at the NFL league meetings Tuesday, via the Seahawks website. "That's what competition is all about. I've got to give them the opportunity by presenting it."
Lock and Eason will be fighting for the starting quarterback job, but Carroll is open to adding two more names to the mix. One of them is Geno Smith, who was on the Seahawks roster the last two years and is still a free agent. Smith completed 68.4% of his passes and threw for 702 yards with five touchdowns to one interception in his four games replacing Wilson (103.0 rating).
"It would be a shame if he misses this opportunity," Carroll said. "He has invested a lot with us, he knows our system the best. He performed well at it once he got going last year. Can he take off from where he finished up?"
Even if Smith returns, the Seahawks are looking to add to the competition. Seattle has the No. 9 and No. 40 overall picks in the draft, so the Seahawks could go that route with a quarterback. There still are free agent options that intrigue the Seahawks too.
"We are totally in that mentality that the fourth guy may be important to us," Carroll said. "We're definitely still in the quarterback business."
