Will Rob Gronkowski be sitting at home on Sundays watching his former Buccaneers teammates on TV when next season rolls around? Will he be on the field alongside them? Even he does not know yet.
Gronk's quarterback and long time teammate, Tom Brady, decided to come back to football following 40 days of retirement this offseason, but that does not mean the tight end has his mind made up. At a charity event recently, No. 87 purposely avoided catching any passes or doing any type of football activity, because he was worried that might make people (himself included) jump to conclusions about coming back.
"I knew if I started catching some passes that my head would have started turning, like, 'Oh, crap, I got to get back out on the field.' And, right now, I'm not ready to get back out on that field," Gronk told TMZ on Monday. "I'm not ready to commit to the game of football right now."
Gronkowski, just like TB12, has already retired once. Gronk came out of retirement to join Brady in Tampa Bay and the two went on to win a Super Bowl in their first year with the Bucs.
The 32-year-old star has suffered many injuries throughout his career, which was one reason he ended up retiring for the first time in March of 2019. He has long said he would not play for any quarterback other than his former New England Patriots teammate Brady, so No. 12 coming back does makes Gronk's return a little more likely, but far from a guarantee.
