After two straight lackluster practices beset by inconsistency and inaccuracy, Jake Lockerrebounded Friday with arguably his most complete practice of Titans' training camp.
Locker was matched by Matt Hasselbeck, who looked sharp and focused for the third straight practice. The NFL's most closely-watched QB competition in training camp remains tight.
The Titans' first-round pick in 2011 went 16 of 20 in Friday's session, as the offense completed their last set of installations until Wednesday. Coach Mike Munchak will use Saturday's practice at LP Field as a review of the past week before Monday's joint practice with the Falcons in Dalton, Ga.
Locker had completed less than 36 percent of his passes in the two practices after a report that it was his job to lose surfaced from Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network earlier in the week. On Thursday night, Locker was 1 of 10 with no touchdowns and an interception.
“I got texts from a few people (about it), but I didn't even know it was from him until now,” Locker said after Friday's practice. “I had a tough night last night, it was a combination of a lot of things. We just had some things that we needed to clean up and we were able to do that.”
The former University of Washington QB completed eight of his first nine attempts, including 6 for 6 during a hurry-up drill. His interception came on a tipped pass that fell directly to S Jordan Babineaux.
Locker responded by connecting with WR Michael Preston in tight quarters on a fade route along the left sideline. In a red-zone drill, Locker was 4 of 5, including a comeback to WR Damian Williams.
Hasselbeck followed Thursday's flawless performance (9 of 9) with a 14-0f-16, 2-TD effort. In the past three days of practice, Hasselbeck has completed more than 85 percent of his passes. The 36-year old had good zip on an out route to WR Nate Washington and a completion to TE Taylor Thompson across the middle. Hasselbeck added touchdown passes to Thompson and Williams.
