Theus was placed on the reserve/retired list by the Titans Wednesday.
Theus spent time with the Panthers last season but did not appear in a single game. The 2016 fifth-rounder was claimed off waivers by the Titans in May, and his retirement opens up a roster spot for the team to fill with another depth piece.

Theus appeared in four games (one start) for the 49ers in 2016, but he has mainly served as depth along the offensive line during his first two professional seasons. He will presumably fill a similar void for the Titans.

John Theus: Waived by New Orleans
Theus (illness) was waived by the Saints on Wednesday, Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Theus, who the Saints claimed off waivers in February, had previously been cut by the team earlier this month, but reverted to New Orleans' injured reserve list. The Saints will now cut ties with the lineman entirely, thereby allowing him to sign with any of the league's remaining 31 teams.

The 24-year-old offensive tackle has been dealing with this ailment since December, but he'll compete for a reserve role once healthy. Theus' placement on IR frees up a roster spot in New Orleans for the time being.

Theus (illness) was claimed off waivers by the Saints on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN.com reports.
Theus was waived by the Panthers on Monday after never seeing the field in 2017 as a member of the Panthers and 49ers. He was placed on injured reserve in early December due to illness. He'll now have a chance to compete for a reserve role on the Saints offensive line this offseason.

Theus, who the Panthers claimed off waivers from the 49ers in September, was placed on injured reserve back in December due to the illness. It's likely that he's back to full strength now, but the Panthers elected to part ways with the offensive tackle in order to free up cap space ahead of the start of the new league year. Assuming Theus goes unclaimed off waivers, he'll be able to sign with any of the NFL's 32 teams.
