  • 49ers' Eric Saubert: Logs 18 snaps with Kittle back

Saubert did not receive a target in Sunday's 30-13 win over the Patriots, logging 18 snaps on offense (29 percent) while playing 20 on special teams. Saubert reverted to his expected backup role after starter George Kittle (4-45-1) returned from a one-game absence. The veteran backup saw his role diminish on offense after gaining 41 yards on two receptions in last week's spot start for Kittle. Saubert can only operate as a deep-league fantasy option in games that Kittle misses, which does not appear to be the situation for this coming Sunday's contest against the Cardinals.

  • 49ers' Eric Saubert: Posts 41 yards in Sunday's start

Saubert had two receptions on as many targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Rams. Saubert received a bump up the depth chart prior to Sunday's defeat after starter George Kittle (hamstring) was ruled out late in the practice week. The veteran backup performed well in the star's absence, but he didn't see his usage increase over last week's two-catch performance. There's a chance Kittle returns for the 49ers' upcoming tilt against the Patriots, so Saubert's time as the club's starting tight end may be short-lived.

  • Eric Saubert: Let go by San Fran

Saubert was released by the 49ers on Tuesday. Saubert inked a deal with the 49ers in April and was expected to primarily serve as a reserve blocking tight end. The 30-year-old made a push for a spot on the roster this preseason, but the team will instead roll with Jake Tonges as its lone backup behind starter George Kittle. Across 10 regular-season appearances with the Texans and Cowboys last season, Saubert caught three passes for 12 yards and worked mostly as a special-teamer.

  • 49ers' Eric Saubert: Eying No. 2 role this preseason

Saubert has two receptions (three targets) for 11 yards through two preseason games with San Francisco. The veteran addition at tight end started both exhibition games while George Kittle sat out with most of the starters on offense. Saubert is known for his blocking skills as opposed to being a vertical threat, so his preseason game log might be a good representation of the kind of fantasy numbers we will see from the 30-year-old in 2024.

  • 49ers' Eric Saubert: Headed to Bay Area

Saubert signed a one-year deal with the 49ers on Monday. Over the course of nine regular-season games for the Texans in 2023, Saubert (who before that suited up for one contest with the Cowboys) caught all three of his targets for 12 yards. With San Francisco, Saubert will work in a depth role behind George Kittle, and in that capacity it's unlikely he'll see enough targets in 2024 to merit fantasy consideration.

  • Texans' Eric Saubert: Won't play Sunday

Saubert (coach's decision) is inactive ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The 29-year-old tight end seems to have fallen down the Texans' depth chart with Brevin Jordan returning to action in Week 11. Saubert has appeared in two games since signing with Houston in late October, playing a total of 55 snaps (36 offensive and 19 on special teams) and failing to record a single stat.

  • Eric Saubert: Headed to Dallas

The Cowboys signed Saubert to their practice squad Tuesday, Nick Harris of the team's official site reports. Saubert signed with the Dolphins this past offseason, but he ended up suffering an undisclosed injury that led to his eventual release in early September. The veteran tight end out of Drake most recently played for the Broncos in 2022, and throughout his six-year NFL career, he's recorded 33 receptions for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Eric Saubert: Hosted by Steelers

Saubert (undisclosed) had a workout with Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Saubert had an opportunity with Miami during training camp, but he suffered an undisclosed injury that resulted in him receiving an injury settlement with the team and becoming a free agent. Now healthy, the 29-year-old is looking for work again, after spending the two previous seasons with the Broncos.

  • Dolphins' Eric Saubert: Moves to injured reserve

Saubert (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Dolphins on Tuesday. The tight end went out with his injury on Aug. 21 and initial reports were that he could miss a week or two. The blocking specialist signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March after spending the last two seasons with the Broncos. Saubert has 15 starts in 74 career games.

  • Dolphins' Eric Saubert: Dealing with injury

Saubert (undisclosed) could miss a week or two, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Saubert's injury details are unclear, but according to head coach Mike McDaniel, the 29-year-old will need a week or two of rehabbing to get back on track.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Scores once in 2022

Saubert caught 15 of 24 targets for 148 yards and one touchdown while playing all 17 games in the 2022 season. Saubert finished a relatively quiet 2022 season, as he played at least 50 percent of offensive snaps just three times across 17 games. The veteran tight end provided solid depth at the position, while rookie Greg Dulcich emerged as the leader of the Broncos' tight-end corps for most of the season. Saubert is set to be free agent this offseason, but his dynamic skill set may be attractive to a new coaching staff in Denver ahead of the 2023 campaign. If the 28-year-old decides to return to the Broncos, he would likely continue to contribute in a depth role next season.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Will play Sunday

Saubert (knee) is active Sunday against the Chargers. Saubert was unable to practice Wednesday or Thursday, but he'll take the field Sunday in the Broncos' regular-season finale. He'll likely fall behind Albert Okwuegbunam as the team's No. 2 option at tight end.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Questionable against Chargers

Saubert (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's season finale against the Chargers, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. A knee injury has cut into Saubert's practice reps. Fellow tight end Eric Tomlinson (ankle) is also questionable, leaving Albert Okwuegbunam as the clear No. 1 tight end for Denver in the season finale.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Still out Thursday

Saubert (knee) didn't practice Thursday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. For the second consecutive day, Saubert was held out of Week 18 prep as a result of the knee injury he presumably sustained in last weekend's loss to the Chiefs. He'll have one more chance to practice in any capacity Friday before Denver would be forced to tag Saubert with an injury designation heading into Sunday's game against the Chargers.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Catches two passes in loss

Saubert secured both of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 22-16 overtime loss to the Raiders. Saubert continued to operate as the Broncos' No. 2 tight end Sunday behind rookie Greg Dulcich. With 27 offensive snaps, the veteran saw roughly half the playing time of Dulcich, who played 53 snaps in the contest. Saubert's limited opportunities in a struggling passing attack make him irrelevant for fantasy purposes. Barring an injury to Dulcich, the 28-year-old should be left off fantasy rosters heading into a Week 12 matchup with the Panthers.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Plays one offensive snap

Saubert played one offensive snap and failed to see a single target in Monday's 19-16 overtime loss to the Chargers. After leading all tight ends in snaps in the past two games, Saubert took a major backseat to rookie Greg Dulcich in his debut. The veteran practiced in a limited fashion due to an ankle injury but was active for the game. His lack of involvement could be related to the injury, but it appears the coaching staff is confident in Dulcich, who impressed as the team's new No. 1 tight end. It's likely that Saubert's involvement in the offense will decrease and he'll be relegated to a depth role going forward. The 28-year-old should remain off the fantasy radar when the Broncos host the Jets in Week 7.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: In uniform Monday

Saubert (thigh) is listed as active for Monday night's game against the Chargers. Saubert was limited in practice this week, but he'll give it a go Week 6 and figures to share TE work with Greg Dulcich, who came off IR on Monday. Meanwhile, Albert Okwuegbunam was made inactive by the Broncos.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Questionable entering Monday

Saubert (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Chargers. Saubert managed to practice all week in limited fashion, which theoretically should put him on track to play in Monday's divisional battle. The veteran tight end easily doubled his total receptions in last Thursday's loss to the Colts, but he's been relatively inconsistent overall, with the Broncos content on using a four-man platoon to cover the position.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Catches five passes in loss

Saubert caught five of seven targets for 36 yards in Thursday's 12-9 overtime loss to the Colts. Saubert once again led all Broncos tight ends in snap percentage, playing 56 percent of the team's offensive snaps. For the time being, it appears that the veteran has earned the trust of the Denver coaching staff and quarterback Russell Wilson, as his seven targets were the third highest in the Denver passing attack. Unfortunately, this bump in usage did not result in much for fantasy purposes with the offense continuing to struggle. Despite Saubert's climb to the top of the depth chart, the 28-year-old will be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes when the Broncos visit the Chargers in Week 6.

  • Broncos' Eric Saubert: Catches one pass

Saubert caught his lone target for three yards in Thursday's 17-14 loss to the Browns. Saubert played on 42 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps as he continued to operate at the team's No. 2 tight end with Albert Okwuegbunam placed on IR. The 27-year-old tight end was unable to capitalize on his increased playing time, playing well behind starter Noah Fant. Saubert is in no way an option for fantasy purposes. The 6-foot-5, 253-pounder would need both Fant and Okwuegbunam to be sidelined with injuries to see any sort of path to fantasy relevance. The Broncos will host Washington in Week 8.
