Alex McGough: Cut by Seattle
The Seahawks waived McGough on Monday, John Clayton of ESPN Seattle reports.
McGough has spent time with the Jacksonville, Houston and, most recently, Seattle practice squads, but the 25-year-old has never seen a snap in an NFL regular season game. The Seahawks currently have three quarterbacks on their roster -- Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Sean Mannion.

After spending some time on the Seahawks' practice squad this past season, McGough will now likely compete with Danny Etling to serve as organizational depth at quarterback for Seattle in 2021.

While there's speculation this is due to Deshaun Watson being roughed up by the Saints in the season opener, Pelissero emphasized that this move was in the works beforehand since the Jaguars showed interest in McGough after Nick Foles broke his collarbone. The 23-year-old McGough resuscitated what had been a dormant offensive operation through most of three quarters, helping the Jaguars convert five first downs and score a touchdown on his third drive of work after the team managed just two field goals on its first 10 possessions of the evening. McGough was enduring a dreadful debut preseason with Jacksonville prior to Thursday, completing five of 17 attempts for 29 yards, zero touchdown passes and one interception in outings against the Ravens and Eagles.
