Covington was signed to the Colts' practice squad on Tuesday.
Covington joins the Colts after being waived by the Cowboys in April. Indianapolis can promote up to two players from its practice squad in any given week, but that could be too quick of a turnaround this week for Covington given how long he's been without a team.

The Cowboys waived Covington on Thursday, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
Covington notched two tackles across three games with the Cowboys last season, and he also spent time on the practice squad. The 2018 sixth-round pick will now look for a chance as a depth linebacker and special-teams contributor with another club.

The Cowboys promoted Covington to the 53-man roster Saturday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
With Leighton Vander Esch (neck) ruled out and Sean Lee (pectoral) questionable, Covington will add depth at outside linebacker for Sunday's game against the Rams. Joe Thomas and Luke Gifford are already on the roster and figure to start if Lee can't go.
