  • Texans' Desmond King: Returning to Houston

    King and the Texans agreed on a one-year, $1.8 million contract Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. King signed with Houston in November after being cut by the Steelers a month earlier, appearing in their final seven games of the regular season as well as both of their postseason matchups. The defensive back racked up a total of 64 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, while also deflecting two passes in those nine games. King also operated as a return specialist for the Texans, compiling 109 yards on punt returns and another 23 yards on kick returns. He can earn up to $2.2 million in his new deal with Houston, and he'll look to carve out a consistent role with the ascending Texans.

  • Texans' Desmond King: Productive day in defeat

    King recorded 11 tackles, including two for a loss, and a pass defensed in the Texans' 36-22 loss to the Browns on Sunday.     King will become the Texans' primary nickelback beginning Sunday against the Broncos, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. King returned to Houston on Nov. 20 after being let go by the Steelers. The Iowa product will now step into a significant role due to the departure of Shaquill Griffin, who was waived Wednesday. King started 25 of 33 games for the Texans between 2021 and 2022 and recorded 182 tackles, 14 passes defended and five interceptions.

  • Texans' Desmond King: Makes six stops in finale

    King recorded six tackles and returned one punt for 16 yards in a 32-31 victory over the Colts in Week 18. King ranked fourth with 89 tackles and tied for the lead with 10 for a loss this season. The six-year veteran has put together two consecutive strong seasons for the Texans, including five interceptions over that span. King averaged 9.4 punt return yards on 33 chances and returned one kickoff for 50 yards. He has one year left on his deal and should be part of the Texans' secondary in 2023.

King racked up stats during Sunday's blowout loss, a contest in which he played 100 percent of defensive snaps for the first time this season. However, in Weeks 2 and 3, the veteran only played 26 and 46 percent of defensive snaps, respectively, so he isn't yet easy to trust for fantasy purposes.

Denzel Perryman and Roderic Teamer didn't play Week 14 after missing a team meeting, but there weren't any reports that King's absence was related. Whatever the issue, it seems to be behind King, and he should be ready for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

    King posted four tackles (three solo) and 2.5 sacks in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Dolphins. The Chargers sent King on multiple blitzes in this contest, and he capitalized with a career-high 2.5 sacks. King didn't record a sack over 16 games last year, so it's definitely bonus points for him. The 24-year-old's IDP value is still low considering he only has 11 tackles through four games.
