  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Starts 11 games in 2024

Diabate finished the 2024 season with 70 tackles (35 solo) and three pass breakups across 13 games with Cleveland. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2023, Diabate appeared in 16 games as a rookie but played just 27 snaps on defense. His playing time on defense skyrocketed in Diabate's second season, seeing 581 snaps on that side of the ball. Starting linebackers Jordan Hicks and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah combining to miss 14 contests allowed Diabate to get more of a chance to play. Diabate is signed through the 2025 campaign.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Records seven stops in loss

Diabate finished with seven tackles (two solo) in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers. The middle linebacker has now played on at least 68 percent of the defensive snaps in seven of Cleveland's last eight games. The second-year pro has 50 tackles (24 solo) after making just eight as a rookie last year.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Tallies seven stops in loss

Diabate recorded seven total tackles (four solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints. Despite Jordan Hicks' return in Week 11, Diabate still played 79 percent of the Browns' defensive snaps and finished as Cleveland's third-leading tackler. Diabate has now accumulated 33 total tackles and two passes defended through six appearances this season. His next opportunity to contribute will come in Week 12, when the Browns host the Steelers on Thursday night.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Season high in tackles Sunday

Diabate recorded nine total tackles (five solo), including one tackle for loss, and defended one pass in Sunday's 29-24 win over the Ravens. Cleveland's second-string middle linebacker stepped up in the absence of Jordan Hicks (elbow) in Week 8, tying Grant Delpit for the team lead in tackles. Diabate has now accumulated 22 total tackles and one pass defended through four appearances this season. He could draw another start in Week 9's matchup against the Chargers if Hicks can't return from injury.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Activated off injured reserve

The Browns activated Diabate (hip) off IR on Saturday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports. Diabate hurt his hip Week 1 against Dallas and was subsequently placed on IR. He was designated to return this past Wednesday and logged a limited practice both Wednesday and Thursday before recording a full session Friday. Diabate thus seems set to return Sunday versus Philadelphia, which could be an important development for the Browns since Jordan Hicks is questionable for the contest -- and may not play a full slate of snaps if he does suit up -- due to an elbow injury.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Designated to return

Diabate (hip) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Diabate had missed Cleveland's last four contests after suffering a hip injury during the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Cowboys, but it appears he'll be returning to the field soon. Cleveland now has 21 days to activate Diabate to its active roster before he reverts to IR. Expect the 23-year-old to serve as a depth piece in the Browns' middle linebacker corps once he's fully past his hip issue.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Healthy for postseason

Diabate (thumb) did not appear on the Browns' injury report Tuesday. Diabate suffered a thumb injury in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, but he now looks healthy heading into the playoffs. The 22-year-old will be back in his role as a primary reserve option at weakside linebacker behind Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in Saturday's matchup with the Texans in the wild-card round.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Exits game with thumb injury

Diabate (thumb) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bengals, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Diabate had one tackle in Sunday's game before exiting with the thumb injury. He got extended playing time at weakside linebacker ahead of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah with the Browns locked into the fifth seed of the AFC.

  • Browns' Mohamoud Diabate: Improves roster chances

Diabate had a team-high seven tackles, including one for a loss that became a safety, and forced a fumble in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles. Diabate, an undrafted free-agent linebacker, has impressed during practice and earned some run on the first special teams unit in last week's preseason game. On Thursday, when the Browns sat several regulars, Diabate was a disruptive force as the starting middle linebacker. He's a long shot to make the 53-man roster, but his chances are better than they were when training camp started.
