The defensive tackle is expected to reach an injury settlement with the Texans and join the team's practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Payne (hamstring) is in line to be waived/injured by Houston, but the expectation is that he'll later reach an injury settlement and join the team's practice squad once healthy, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Payne hurt his hamstring in Saturday's preseason win against the Rams. He had been on the outside looking in for a spot on the 53-man roster prior to getting hurt, but if he goes through waivers unclaimed and subsequently reaches an injury settlement, as expected, the defensive lineman will be able to get some experience on the Texans' practice squad.
