  • Mitch Callahan: Headed overseas

Callahan secured a one-year contract with DEL club Augsburger on Friday.

Callahan -- who was selected in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the Red Wings -- spent the past eight seasons playing primarily in the AHL. The winger did log five NHL contests for the Red Wings, the last of which came during the 2016-17 campaign. With AHL Bakersfield last season, the 27-year-old notched 15 goals and 19 helpers in 61 appearances. While a return is not impossible, this likely marks the end of Callahan's NHL playing days.

  • Oilers' Mitch Callahan: Waived by Edmonton

Callahan was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Callahan continues to make headlines for the wrong reasons. He was hit with a 20-game suspension back in February for using performance-enhancing substances, and now the 27-year-old winger appears destined for the AHL after the Oilers put him on waivers.

  • Oilers' Mitch Callahan: Will serve suspension

Callahan has been suspended 20 games by the AHL for the use of performance-enhancing substances, The Bakersfield Californian reports.

Callahan was signed by the Oilers last summer to a two-year contract and has been with AHL Bakersfield all season. The 26-year-old was a longshot to see time at the NHL level in 2017-18 -- this suspension certainly diminishes those chances. The Condors' assistant captain struggled with nine points in 46 games down in Bakersfield this year.

  • Oilers' Mitch Callahan: Waived by Edmonton

Callahan was placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment Saturday.

Callahan is 26 years old and has yet to make a significant impact at the NHL level, so this move doesn't come as much of a surprise. He'll likely spend most of the 2017-18 campaign with AHL Bakersfield.

  • Oilers' Mitch Callahan: Agrees to two-year contract

Callahan signed a two-year deal with Edmonton on Saturday.

Callahan will get the chance to earn a spot on the 23-man roster after spending most of last year with AHL Grand Rapids. The winger notched 16 points in the playoffs while helping the Griffins secure a Calder Cup championship. The 25-year-old has yet to tally a point in the NHL, as he has made just five appearances. Don't be surprised to see Callahan logging more regular minutes during the 2017-18 campaign.

  • Red Wings' Mitch Callahan: Reassigned to AHL

Callahan was sent down to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday.

The 25-year-old hasn't done much at the NHL level this season, failing to record a point while averaging 6:48 of ice time across four games. He's been proficient in the AHL, however, scoring 13 goals to go with 22 assists and 32 PIM across 53 contests, so it's clear he needs further seasoning before he'll be able to make an impact with the big club.

  • Red Wings' Mitch Callahan: Called up to Detroit

Callahan was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

With agitator Steve Ott off to Montreal, the Red Wings probably wanted to add another physical presence and Callahan certainly fits the bill. The American winger has maintained his physical style of play in the AHL this season but has also become more offensive-minded, as his 22 assists tie a career high. He'll likely slide into a bottom-six role with Detroit if and when he does draw into games.

  • Red Wings' Mitch Callahan: Placed on waivers Saturday

Callahan was waived by the Red Wings on Saturday, Gregg Krupa of The Detroit News reports.

Callahan is shaping up to be a career minor leaguer, having spent the past five seasons almost exclusively with AHL Grand Rapids -- his lone NHL appearance took place in the 2013-14 campaign. A physical winger, Callahan picked up 32 points and 94 PIM in 62 games with the Griffins last season. The 25-year-old is expected to rejoin that club since it's doubtful that he'll get scooped off the waiver wire.

  • Red Wings' Mitch Callahan: Inks deal with Red Wings

Callahan re-signed with Detroit on Thursday, earning a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 at the NHL level.

Callahan played one game for Detroit during the 2013-14 campaign, but has otherwise spent his career in the AHL, where he has notched 70 points over the last two years. Barring injuries, there seems to be little indication that the 24-year-old is set for a breakout 2016-17 season and will likely see the bulk of his playing time in the minors.
