Sabres' Taylor Leier: Secures NHL deal
Leier agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo on Monday worth $700,000.
Leier has been playing for AHL Rochester on a minor-league deal and appears to have shown the organization enough to warrant a two-way contract. The 26-year-old has notched seven goals and one helper in 17 outings for the Americans this season. With his contract in hand, the winger is eligible to be promoted to the NHL, though he will need to clear waivers first.

Sabres' Taylor Leier: Long-awaited return
Leier, finally recovered from labrum surgery, plans to make his season debut Wednesday for Rochester of the AHL, Bill Hoppe of The Buffalo News reports.
The forward tore his labrum in a freak off-ice accident and has yet to make his debut for the 2019-20 season. Leier finished well after being acquired by the Sabres organization in exchange for Justin Bailey last season, finishing with 23 points in 35 games, so he'll finally get a chance to get back at it and prove he deserves more than just a one-way deal.

Leier signed a one-year extension with the Flyers on Sunday, CapFriendly reports. The deal is worth $720,000.
As noted by CapFriendly, Leier actually accepted a less lucrative deal in order to ensure that he wouldn't fall under two-way terms. This means he should be up for most -- if not all -- of 2018-19. He has accumulated seven points and maintained a minus-8 rating over 55 NHL games, so the Flyers will be expecting improvement from Leier in the upcoming season.

Leier applied for salary arbitration Thursday, according to NHLPA.com.
Leier hasn't been given much of a chance to shine, as he's only drawn into 55 NHL games and averaged 9:56 of ice time. Over that span, the pivot's recorded a mere two goals and five assists. Leier protects the puck well and he's being groomed on the penalty kill, but we can't see him being worth much more than the $806,558 that he received on his last one-year deal with the Flyers.

Leier skated in 39 games during 2017-18, averaging 10:29 of ice time while pitching in a goal and four assists.
After starting the season with the bottom six, Leier appeared in 21 of the first 23 games, but then entered the rotation between the ice and press box before being a healthy scratch for the last 22 games. Leier flashed offensive ability in the minors in 2015-16 scoring 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 48 games, and although he plays a sound two-way game, he likely needs more time adjusting to professional play and needs to keep adapting with his small 5' 10" frame. The 24-year-old should push again for a roster spot, but even if he makes the team, he'll likely appear on the fourth line.

Leier, who's a third-year winger, has naturally seen an increase in playing time as he picks up the nuances of a fast-paced NHL game, though his pace of development has been painfully slow. Certainly, it doesn't help matters that the 2012 fourth-round draft pick has only converted one goal on 45 shots for a 2.2 shooting percentage this campaign, but at least for Thursday's game, he's projected for duty on the No. 2 power-play unit, making for an incredibly sneaky value play in DFS settings.

Not only did the tally snap a 10-game point drought, it was also the first of the season for the 23-year-old winger. Leier is averaging just 11:20 of ice time per game this season, and he's currently skating on the fourth line and not receiving power-play time. With the single goal and just two helpers through 20 games for the campaign, Leier is not a viable option in the majority of fantasy setups.
