Sundqvist (knee) has been cleared for contact but is not ready to return to the lineup, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports Monday.
Sundqvist can be activated off the injured non-roster list as soon as he is ready, which seems to be sooner rather than later. Even once given the green light, the 30-year-old forward will likely have to settle for a bottom-six role and could even be a healthy scratch periodically.

Sundqvist sustained a torn ACL in March and was initially expected to be ready for Opening Night, but he'll need more time to recover before he's cleared to make his season debut. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to action. Over 71 appearances with St. Louis last year, he tallied six goals and 21 points.

Blues' Oskar Sundqvist: Joining practices
Sundqvist (knee) will take part in practices during training camp, but he isn't expected to participate in any preseason games, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports Thursday.
Rutherford clarified a previous report from Wednesday, which stated that Sundqvist wouldn't participate in training camp. Sundqvist might still be available for Opening Night, but that remains to be seen. He had six goals and 21 points in 71 appearances with the Blues last season. If he isn't available for the opener against Seattle on Oct. 8, then perhaps Nikita Alexandrov will draw into the lineup after logging just 23 contests with St. Louis in 2023-24.

Sundqvist is headed for surgery after sustaining a torn ACL in Monday's matchup with Vegas. He'll be reevaluated in six months.
Sundqvist will be hard-pressed to be ready in time for the start of the 2024-25 season given the expected recovery timeframe. Prior to getting hurt, the 30-year-old center was bogged down in a 15-game pointless streak on top of a 24-game goal drought. Fortunately for Sundqvist, he signed a two-year contest extension with the Blues on March 7, otherwise he'd be heading into the free-agent market with this injury hanging over his head.

Sundqvist went hard to the net and got a stick on a Brayden Schenn pass for the opening goal at 7:39 of the first period. The tally was Sundqvist's third goal and fifth point over 11 games in January. The 29-year-old has mainly played on the fourth line, though he's also seeing time on the second power-play unit. For the season, the center has six goals, 18 points, 47 shots on net, 43 hits, 35 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 47 outings.

Sundqvist got the Blues on the board in the final minute of the second period, stuffing a rebound past Carter Hart on the power play to tie the game 1-1. The 29-year-old Sundqvist now has points in three straight games, including power-play goals in back-to-back contests, after tallying just two assists in his previous 12 appearances. Overall, he's up to five goals and 17 points this season. While Sundqvist will primarily skate on St. Louis' fourth line, he's averaged 1:27 of power-play time over their last three outings.

Sundqvist scored a power-play goal and added two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Bruins.
Sundqvist's penalty led to the Bruins' third-period tally, which put them ahead 3-2. Later in the frame, Sundqvist got a piece of a Scott Perunovich shot to knock in the game-tying goal, which forced overtime. Sundqvist has three points over his last four games, but it'll be hard to trust his offense in the long run as long as he remains on the fourth line. The 29-year-old has four goals, 16 points, 43 shots on net, 40 hits, 32 blocked shots, 10 PIM and a plus-2 rating through 41 outings overall.

Sundqvist broke up Petr Mrazek's bid for consecutive shutouts with a tally at 16:31 of the third period. The goal was Sundqvist's first in a month, and he racked up a modest six assists across the 14 games in between goals. The Blues traded Sundqvist to the Red Wings in March of 2022, and he spent last season with both the Wings and the Wild. However, he re-signed with the Blues this summer and has claimed a spot in the bottom six and as a top penalty killer. The 29-year-old posted a career-high 31 points in the 2018-19 season but has battled injuries ever since. He isn't expected to be a consistent fantasy contributor this year.
