Top Dominik Masin News

  • Dominik Masin: Headed to Russia

Masin agreed to terms on a contract with KHL side Amur Khabarovsk on Monday, The Peterborough Examiner reports.

Despite four full seasons with AHL Syracuse, Masin was never able to break into a game for the Lightning. Selected by the organization with the 35th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, the 24-year-old blueliner displayed some scoring touch in the minors, as he tallied 16 points in 59 outings this year.

  • Lightning's Dominik Masin: Returning to Tampa Bay

Masin agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Wednesday.

Masin was not extended a qualifying offer by Tampa Bay this offseason, but found his way back with the team after all. The 23-year-old suited up in 69 games with AHL Syracuse during the 2018-19 season, posting two goals and 12 points to go along with a plus-36 rating. The Czech-born player will likely spend a majority of his time in the minors again in 2019-20.

  • Lightning's Dominik Masin: Skating in minors

Masin (undisclosed) has suited up in three games for AHL Syracuse in 2017-18, picking up four PIM while failing to record a point.

A second-round pick in 2014, Masin was competing for a roster spot with the Bolts in training camp before going down to injury. Masin was drafted with the vision of him becoming an offensive-minded, puck-moving defenseman after a productive junior career. However, Masin has just six points in 76 professional games at this point in his career and will likely need more seasoning before he's considered for an NHL call-up.

  • Lightning's Dominik Masin: Will be placed on IR

Masin (undisclosed) will begin the 2017-18 campaign on injured reserve, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.

Masin only notched six points in 69 games with AHL Syracuse last season, and he wasn't expected to have a major role with the big club this campaign, so fantasy owners don't need to concern themselves with his status. The 21-year-old blueliner will almost certainly be demoted to the minors once he's ready to return to action.

  • Lightning's Dominik Masin: Inks entry-level deal with Bolts

The Lightning have signed Masin to a three-year entry-level contract. He was drafted by Tampa 35th overall in 2014.

He hasn't the scoreboard much in his time in junior hockey -- he has just one helper in seven OHL games so far and 27 in 55 games in two seasons. But Masin is a high-character defender who oozes leadership out every pore. He's several years away, but could some day help solidify the top-four as a shutdown specialist.
