  • Stars' Adam Mascherin: Nets first pro hat trick Sunday

Mascherin had a hat trick and added an assist in AHL Texas' 7-3 rout of San Antonio on Sunday.

After scoring just three times in his first 16 games for Texas, Mascherin matched that total in just over 16 minutes Sunday. Originally a second-round pick of Florida in 2016, Mascherin never signed with the Panthers and after reentering the draft, was selected 100th overall by Dallas this past June. He was a big-time scorer in his OHL days and he has a bomb of a shot, but Mascherin's below-average foot speed severely limits his potential. He has the look of a up-and-down guy.

  • Stars' Adam Mascherin: Snags ELC

Mascherin inked a three-year, entry-level contract with Dallas on Friday.

Mascherin had a slight drop in production last season, as he managed 86 points in 67 outings (14 fewer points than 2016-17). Originally drafted by the Panthers with the 38th pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, the winger never signed with Florida and re-entered the 2018 NHL Draft, in which he was selected in the fourth round by Dallas. Having aged out of juniors, the 20-year-old figures to link up with AHL Texas for the bulk of the upcoming campaign.

  • Stars' Adam Mascherin: Falls in return to draft

Mascherin was drafted 100th overall by the Stars at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Originally the 38th overall pick by the Panthers in 2016, Mascherin elected not to sign with Florida and instead reentered the draft. The relationship between the two parties soured quickly and while Florida attempted to trade Mascherin's rights, it found no takers at its asking price. Over the past few seasons, Mascherin has proven to be an elite goal scorer at the OHL level. He has posted 110 goals over the past three seasons for Kitchener and there is no doubt that the 20-year-old has an NHL-ready shot. While not very tall at 5-foot-9, Mascherin is extremely hard to knock off the puck and makes his living in the slot. He may ultimately be nothing more than a very good junior player, but Mascherin has earned an opportunity to showcase his abilities at the professional level. He should begin this coming season in the AHL.

  • Adam Mascherin: Will re-enter draft

The Panthers didn't sign Mascherin to a contract before their exclusive negotiating rights ended Friday, which means he'll re-enter the NHL Draft, Matthew DeFranks of the Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Mascherin played well in the OHL over the past three seasons, racking up 110 goals and 267 points in 197 games, but the Panthers clearly don't think the 5-foot-10 winger -- whom they chose in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft -- is worth committing to long term. Mascherin will be eligible to be selected by any team in the 2018 NHL Draft, but he's not expected to be taken until the later rounds.

  • Panthers' Adam Mascherin: Ruled out of training camp

Mascherin (shoulder) won't attend Florida's training camp, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

Mascherin still hasn't been cleared for contact after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, and this development all but confirms he won't be on the Panthers' Opening Night roster. However, the diminutive winger has been exceptional in the OHL over the past two seasons, racking up 181 points (70 goals, 111 assists) in 130 games, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him ink an entry-level deal with Florida at some point this season after returning to full health.

  • Panthers' Adam Mascherin: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Mascherin will sit out the Panthers' development camp after undergoing shoulder surgery, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

Mascherin was selected with the 38th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft but failed to get any action with the big club during his first full season. His recent shoulder surgery definitely doesn't help his chances of making a bigger impact with the Panthers, but even when at full strength, he's not expected to be a viable fantasy option.
