Egor Yakovlev: Headed back to KHL
Yakovlev agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Wednesday.
After just one season in North America, in which he logged 25 games with the Devils, Yakovlev will return to the KHL, where he played from 2012-18. In his brief NHL stint, the blueliner notched two goals, five helpers and 24 shots. At this point, it's hard to imagine the Russian will get another chance to secure a spot in the NHL.

Devils' Egor Yakovlev: Plays 25 games in first NHL season
Yakovlev dished out an assist in Saturday's season finale against Florida, finishing the season with two goals and five helpers in 25 appearances.
Yakovlev has some intriguing offensive instincts and even filled in at forward for a bit when injuries struck, but it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old unrestricted free agent will opt to stick in the NHL or return to his native Russia next season.

Devils' Egor Yakovlev: Shaping up as healthy scratch
Yakovlev (undisclosed) is projected to be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Blues, according to Mike G. Moreale of NHL.com.
We suspect that if Yakovlev was still dealing with his undisclosed issue, he would have been listed in the injury section of that NHL.com preview. Either way, the rookie defenseman's status won't cause much of a stir in the fantasy realm, as he's only averaged 15:37 of ice time with six points through 24 games. However, keep him in mind for future seasons, as his numbers would be serviceable if projected out over the course of a full campaign.

After three games on the sidelines, Yakovlev will provide some reinforcement along the blue line for a beat-up Devils squad. The rookie isn't a huge threat in terms of fantasy, racking up six points in 22 games, but he does sport a 9.1 shooting percentage on the campaign. Yakovlev has seen the ice for just 15:21 on average and doesn't participate in the power play, so there isn't much upside for the blueliner.

The freak accident occurred midway through the third period. We can only imagine what it would feel like to get hit with a puck, let alone from a player who packs one of the heaviest shots in the league in Weber. The Russian reportedly stayed on the bench after the play, but Yakovlev should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's game against the Kings.

We're guessing he wouldn't have been bussed back to the minor league if New Jersey wasn't about to be off the grid for eight straight days due to the team's bye week and ensuing All-Star break.

Yakovlev hasn't played in an NHL game since Dec. 10 and is unlikely to slot into the lineup for Monday's matchup with Chicago either. The Russian defenseman figures to provide some extra depth on the blue line and will likely be headed back to the minors once the Devils need the extra spot on the 23-man roster.

Yakovlev was sent down to make room for Cameron Johnson, who was needed to back up Keith Kinkaid since MacKenzie Blackwood (lower body) will be sitting out. The 27-year-old blueliner has been a healthy scratch for 11 straight games while with the big club, so Yaklovev being the roster casualty isn't a surprise. When the Devils' crease gets healthy again, he'll likely return to the big club for depth.
