Top Josh Hart News

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: On track for opener

Coach Mike Brown isn't concerned about Hart missing Tuesday's regular-season opener Tuesday against Philadelphia, Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News reports.

Hart was held out of Thursday's preseason matchup against the Raptors due to right ankle soreness, but it doesn't appear as though he's in any danger of missing the season opener. It'll be worth monitoring his status over the next few days, but all signs point to him suiting up Tuesday.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Not listed in starting lineup

Hart isn't listed in New York's starting lineup for Thursday's preseason game against the Raptors.

Head coach Mike Brown said pregame that New York's starters will see increased playing time in the team's preseason finale. However, it's unclear if Hart will suit up given he isn't listed in the first unit.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Set to play Thursday

Hart (rest) is in line to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Raptors, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports,

Thursday's exhibition is serving as a dress rehearsal for the Knicks. Hart's leash could theoretically extend into the second half as a result.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Scores two points; won't play Tuesday

Hart recorded two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and one steal over 22 minutes in Monday's 122-104 preseason loss to the Timberwolves.

Per Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, Hart will sit out Tuesday's exhibition for rest, as it is the second night of a back-to-back set during the preseason. Hart's absence should open up minutes for Landry Shamet and Jordan Clarkson.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Scores 13 in preseason loss

Hart collected 13 points (5-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 21 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 preseason loss to the Wizards.

Hart was able to shake off the rust in this one after being held to two points in 13 minutes during Monday's preseason opener against Philly. The 31-year-old did a bit of everything Thursday, which is typical considering he averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.5 made threes over 66 regular-season games a year ago.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Will play through finger issue

Hart stated Thursday that he'll need to have his finger wrapped until he retires, Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News reports.

Hart notes that he plans to continue to wrap his right ring finger, as undergoing surgery would mean a full joint replacement and the end of his playing days. He's evidently learned to play through injury, as he hit at a clip of 41.3 percent from beyond the arc over 66 regular-season games a season ago. "Some days it'll hurt to catch the ball. It just, it varies," said Hart. "I wish I could tell you when I wake up, what's gonna be good, what's gonna be bad. But yeah, I mean, some days it's good like a regular functioning finger. And other days it hurts to just close my hand, to make a fist."

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Extension appears unlikely

Hart said Monday that there hasn't been much movement in extension talks with the Knicks and that he doesn't expect a deal to get done, Vincent Goodwill of ESPN reports.

Hart is eligible for an extension but remains under contract for 2026-27 with a team option for 2027-28, so his comments don't create any immediate uncertainty regarding his status with New York. However, the lack of progress suggests the two sides may enter the season without reaching a new long-term agreement.

  • Knicks' Josh Hart: Eligible for extension

Hart is eligible for a contract extension, per Ian Begley of SportsNet New York.

Hart is under contract for 2026-27 ahead of a 2027-28 team option. The Knicks have plenty of other mouths to feed, as Karl-Anthony Towns is already extension eligible while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby will be next offseason, so it remains to be seen how New York will prioritize its contract talks. Hart opened last year as a reserve before assuming a full-time starting role in late November, and he's locked into the first unit to open this season in the wake of Mitchell Robinson's exit.
