West (thumb) is active for Thursday's game against the Rams, Briana Jeannel of the 49ers' official site reports.
West underwent surgery to repair a thumb injury that he sustained during the 49ers' Week 3 win over the Cardinals. He was unable to play against the Jaguars on Sunday, but the rookie fourth-rounder has been cleared to play in Thursday's road tilt. West has two tackles (one solo) through the first three regular-season games of his NFL career.

49ers' CJ West: Requires surgery on thumb
Head coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Monday that West will need to undergo surgery to repair a broken thumb, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Despite the necessity of a procedure, Shanahan noted that West could play through the injury with a cast on his broken thumb, which means he has not been ruled out for the 49ers' Week 4 clash against the Jaguars this Sunday, per Branch. West logged two tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 16-15 win over the Cardinals.

49ers' CJ West: Logs full practice Wednesday
West (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The rookie fourth-rounder hyper-extended his knee in mid-August, which prevented him from playing in the 49ers' final two preseason games. West was able to open the week with a full practice, which puts him on track to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Seahawks. He's expected to serve in a rotational role at defensive tackle with Alfred Collins, Kalia Davis and Jordan Elliott.

West (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
West hyperextended his knee during practice this past week, and San Francisco will take the conservative route by having the rookie fourth-rounder observe Saturday's game in street clothes. The injury isn't considered a long-term issue, so he could be available for the 49ers' preseason finale against the Chargers on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The 49ers selected West in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 113th overall.
The 49ers have prioritized the defensive line in this draft and add another big body in West to go with Alfred Collins from the second round. West (6-foot-1, 316 pounds) has good quickness for his size and can collapse a pocket with his violent hands. Starting out at Kent State, West finished at Indiana and showed he could move up a weight class and still produce, as he was a big part of a Hoosier team that made an amazing run to the College Football Playoff.
