The Mariners optioned Grotz to their alternate training site Sunday.
The Mariners will swap Grotz out for a fresh relief arm in Seth Frankoff, whose contract was selected from the alternate site in a corresponding move. Grotz mopped up in Saturday's 16-3 loss to the Angels, giving up four runs on three hits and four walks over 1.1 innings.
