Manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that Archer (forearm) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list in the coming days to make his next appearance with the Rays, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.
Tampa Bay is still weighing whether to deploy Archer as a starter or reliever upon his return, but the club at least seems confident that he's healthy again after he made the sixth appearance of his rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Durham. He built up to 4.2 innings in the outing, giving up three runs on one hit and two walks while striking out six. If the Rays do decide to move Archer into the rotation, Michael Wacha (11.57 ERA in 14 innings over his last three starts) would seem most at risk of losing his spot.
