  • Giants' Drew Cavanaugh: Sitting Thursday

Cavanaugh is not in the lineup Thursday against the Padres.

It's the second straight game coming off the bench for Cavanaugh, though he still served as a pinch hitter Wednesday and delivered an RBI single. Daniel Susac is operating as the starting catcher Thursday and is batting seventh.

  • Jake Rogers C | CHW

Orioles' Jake Rogers: Lands with Baltimore

The Tigers traded Rogers to the Orioles in exchange for pitching prospect Zane Barnhart on Thursday.

The Orioles have been dealing with injuries at the catcher position, with both Adley Rutschman (wrist) and Samuel Basallo (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list. Chadwick Tromp and Yohel Pozo have been filling in behind the plate. Rogers doesn't offer much upside with his bat but brings some veteran stability to a turbulent catching situation just a couple days after being designated for assignment by Detroit.

  • Jimmy Crooks C | STL

Cardinals' Jimmy Crooks: Absent from lineup

Crooks is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cubs.

Ivan Herrera has been the personal catcher for Andre Pallante this season, and those two will form the battery for the Cardinals in Thursday's series finale. The left-handed-hitting Crooks has started just one of the past six games, though three of those contests have been against southpaws.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Heating up on rehab stint

Murphy (finger) has five hits over his last two games for Triple-A Gwinnett.

The veteran catcher began a rehab assignment at Gwinnett on July 25, and Murphy was able to play a full seven innings of defense Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader. Given how much time he's missed the season with various injuries, Atlanta isn't likely to rush Murphy back from the IL, but he looks like he's finally 100 percent healthy, maybe for the first time in 2026. With the trade deadline coming Monday, Atlanta might wait until the dust has settled on any roster moves before finding room on the 26-man roster for Murphy.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rangers' Elias Diaz: Receiving rest Thursday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays.

Diaz will be handed the afternoon off after he started behind the plate in three of the Rangers' last four games. Austin Wynns will handle catching duties for the Rangers in the series finale.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Four hits in twin bill

Baldwin went 4-for-8 with a double and a run scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

He got the start at DH in the matinee before handling catching duties in the nightcap, rattling off two hits in each contest. Baldwin extended his hitting streak to eight games in the process, a stretch in which he's batting .387 (12-for-31) with a double, two homers, five runs and five RBI.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Athletics' Jonah Heim: Goes deep in loss

Heim went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.

This was Heim's second homer in the last three games. The catcher will get a chance at steady playing time since Shea Langeliers (knee) is projected to miss most or all of the rest of the season. Heim is hitting .216 (16-for-74) with four homers and 13 RBI over 19 contests in July. For the year, he's batting .229 with a .720 OPS, 11 homers, 34 RBI, 23 runs scored and 10 doubles over 61 games.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Homers in four-hit game

Diaz went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Angels.

Diaz sat out both of the previous two games, and the rest seems to have benefited his performance. This was his first multi-hit effort since July 6 versus the Nationals, and it included his first homer since July 10. The catcher is batting .247 with a .677 OPS, seven homers, 25 RBI, 22 runs scored, nine doubles and no stolen bases over 51 games this season.

  • Giants' Daniel Susac: Smacks first two homers

Susac went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four total RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 16-3 win over the Brewers.

After going 131 plate appearances without a homer to start his big-league career, Susac put the Giants ahead in the second inning Wednesday with a three-run blast off Thomas Pannone before adding a second long ball in the eighth. It was a much-needed breakout game for the rookie backstop, who'd gone just 2-for-23 over his previous 12 games while losing out on playing time to Drew Cavanaugh. Overall, Susac is slashing .256/.306/.372 with 19 RBI, nine runs scored and two steals across 136 plate appearances this season.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Back from IL

The Angels reinstated d'Arnaud (foot) from the injured list Wednesday.

The Angels had been aiming to get d'Arnaud back on the active roster over the weekend, but he'll rejoin the team a few days early to replenish the depth the team lost by trading Logan O'Hoppe to the Rangers on Wednesday. D'Arnaud hasn't been especially productive since joining the Angels in 2025, slashing just .198/.262/.339 across 271 plate appearances with the organization. However, with Tyler Heineman representing his only healthy competition on the big-league roster, d'Arnaud should get his fair share of starts.
