  • Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Two homers in Tuesday's win

Canzone went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Dodgers.

Canzone homered in the sixth and eighth innings, with the latter blast providing enough offense to get the Mariners a hard-earned win. He has gone 6-for-13 with three homers over his last three contests. For the season, Canzone is batting .263 with an .863 OPS, 18 homers, 49 RBI, 37 runs scored, one stolen base, 15 doubles and a triple over 93 games in a strong-side platoon role.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Goes yard in loss Tuesday

Springer went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, a run scored and a walk during Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Nationals.

With Toronto trailing 8-3 in the eighth inning, Springer cut the deficit to just two runs, blasting a three-run homer off Gus Varland. For the 36-year-old, it was his second homer in his last four games, as he extended his hitting streak to four contests. On the season, Springer has slashed .234/.315/.405 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 339 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Eduardo Valencia: Huge effort Tuesday

Valencia went 4-for-5 with two home runs, an additional run scored and four total RBI in Tuesday's 14-0 win over the Orioles.

Valencia was just recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, and in his first game action since then, he made quite the impression. The rookie homered in his first MLB at-bat back on July 9, and he now has four long balls in only seven games in the majors. Valencia is unlikely to keep up this torrid pace, though he has hit 17 homers in 81 games with the Mud Hens, so the 26-year-old has some definite pop in his bat. With Jake Rogers having been DFA'd on Tuesday, the Tigers seem set to ride with Valencia as the backup to Dillon Dingler for the rest of the season.

  • Rob Refsnyder DH | SEA

Mariners' Rob Refsnyder: Reinstated and starting

The Mariners reinstated Refsnyder (knee) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Refsnyder is returning from right knee inflammation that has kept him out since the end of June. During his rehab assignment, he went 6-for-29 with a home run, three RBI and three walks. The 35-year-old, who typically platoons against lefties, is starting against Dodgers southpaw Justin Wrobleski on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Mariners designated Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Resting in second game of twin bill

Suarez is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Guardians.

Suarez started in the first part of the doubleheader Tuesday, which was a 6-5 loss to the Guardians, and he went 0-for-4. He'll rest during the nightcap, with Sal Stewart featuring as the designated hitter and Ke'Bryan Hayes starting at third base.

  • Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI

    Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Battling illness

Schwarber's absence from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins is due to a gastrointestinal issue, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Schwarber's omission from Tuesday's starting nine is notable since he rarely gets days off, so it's not a major surprise that he's feeling less than 100 percent. The veteran slugger should be considered day-to-day while Bryce Harper shifts to designated hitter.

  • Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Rare day off Tuesday

Schwarber is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game in Miami.

It's the first time Schwarber has been out of the lineup since he missed two games in late June with lower-back tightness. Bryce Harper will get a day at designated hitter, Alec Bohm will shift to first base and Edmundo Sosa will net a start at third base for the Phillies.

  • Jose Tena DH | WAS

Nationals' Jose Tena: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Tena is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Blue Jays.

The left-handed-swinging Tena had drawn five straight starts against righties (with four of them coming from the designated hitter slot), but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Blue Jays send righty Shane Bieber to the hill. James Wood will fill the DH spot Tuesday, and Daylen Lile, Jacob Young and Dylan Crews will patrol the outfield.

  • Tigers' Eduardo Valencia: Back with big club

The Tigers recalled Valencia from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Valencia didn't deserve to be sent back down in the first place after going 5-for-12 with a pair of home runs in his first stint with the big club earlier this month. He didn't have to wait long for another opportunity, as the rookie will replace the injured Kerry Carpenter (foot) on the roster. Valencia could see some starts at designated hitter in Carpenter's stead, though regular playing time for the 26-year-old isn't a given.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Idle against southpaw

Benintendi is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

The left-handed-hitting Benintendi will retreat to the bench for the first time in the second half while the White Sox face off against lefty Max Fried in the series opener. With Benintendi taking a seat, Colson Montgomery will get a break from playing in the infield but will stick in the lineup at designated hitter.
