Brice Matthews CF | HOU
Astros' Brice Matthews: Activated from IL
The Astros reinstated Matthews (knee) from the 60-day injured list Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Matthews has missed the entire second half due to a left knee sprain, but he's now been cleared to return and aid the Astros in their push for a postseason appearance. The 24-year-old will almost certainly be limited to a bench role, however, as he owns a .582 OPS through 226 plate appearances this season and went just 1-for-24 with 12 strikeouts during his rehab assignment. Jorge Barrosa was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

Angel Martinez LF | CLE
Guardians' Angel Martinez: In Saturday's lineup
Martinez (side) will start in left field and bat fifth Saturday against the Athletics.
Martinez has missed each of Cleveland's last three games while dealing with a right side injury, but he now appears to have made a full recovery ahead of Saturday's contest. The 24-year-old has had a largely successful September thus far, slashing .268/.318/.537 with two homers, five RBI and seven runs scored over 44 plate appearances.

Jac Caglianone RF | KC
Royals' Jac Caglianone: Back in action Saturday
Caglianone (hand) will serve as the designated hitter and bat third Saturday against the Pirates.
Caglianone sat out Friday's contest due to a hand injury he suffered before the game, but he appears to be feeling well enough to fill a non-defensive role Saturday. The 23-year-old has been stuck in a cold spell this month, logging just four hits in September and none in his last five games.

Tyler O'Neill RF | BAL
Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Out for season
The Orioles transferred O'Neill (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
O'Neill was placed on the injured list Aug. 26 due to his strained right rotator cuff, so moving to the 60-day IL will officially rule him out for the rest of the year. The 31-year-old will close out his second season in Baltimore with a .212/.300/.377 slash line to go with 10 homers, 23 RBI and 31 runs scored across 260 plate appearances. His 40-man roster spot will go to Felix Bautista (shoulder), who came off the 60-day IL on Saturday.
-
Max Schuemann LF | NYY
Yankees' Max Schuemann: Joins big club
The Yankees recalled Schuemann from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Schuemann has slashed .275/.333/.507 with three homers, six RBI and 14 runs scored across 76 plate appearances since being sent down to Triple-A in late August. He'll now return to the majors to give the Yankees a bench option capable of playing almost anywhere in the field while Aaron Judge (calf) is on the injured list.
-
Aaron Judge RF | NYY
Yankees' Aaron Judge: Move to IL official
The Yankees placed Judge on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right calf strain, retroactive to Thursday.
Judge will be eligible to return from the injured list before New York's regular-season finale, though it's more likely that the team keeps him on the shelf until the postseason. Heliot Ramos is the favorite to take over as the Yankees' primary right fielder while Judge is out, and Max Schuemann will come up from Triple-A to fill the open roster spot.
-
Christian Franklin LF | BAL
Orioles' Christian Franklin: Back from IL
The Orioles reinstated Franklin (hand) from the injured list Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Franklin has been out since Sept. 1 with left hand inflammation, but he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment Sunday and subsequently went 3-for-12 with a homer, two RBI, three runs and three steals over four games. Now fully healthy, he'll provide the Orioles with outfield depth down the stretch, replacing Heston Kjerstad.
-
Heston Kjerstad RF | BAL
Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Back in Norfolk
The Orioles optioned Kjerstad to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Since joining the big club at the start of September, Kjerstad has gone 4-for-19 with two RBI, a run scored and nine strikeouts across 11 games. He'll now be sent back to the minors to make room for Christian Franklin (hand), who was activated from the IL in a corresponding move.
-
Zach McKinstry RF | DET
Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Taking seat Saturday
McKinstry isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.
McKinstry will take a day to reset after going 0-for-16 across his last six games. His absence will allow Ben Malgeri to start in right field, batting seventh.
-
Tristan Peters CF | CHW
White Sox's Tristan Peters: Sitting Saturday
Peters (shoulder/rib) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.
Peters made an early exit from Friday's contest after injuring his left shoulder/rib by crashing into the wall, and he'll now take Saturday off to recover. Brenton Doyle will take over in center field and bat ninth.
