Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Injures shoulder, done for 2026

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Saturday that Treinen will be sidelined for the rest of the 2026 season due to a right shoulder injury, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Treinen injured his throwing shoulder while warming up in the bullpen during Saturday's 4-3 win over the Giants, and the injury is severe enough for the veteran reliever to be shelved for the rest of the 2026 campaign. He had recently returned from a nearly three-month stint on the IL due to an elbow injury, appearing in seven games since that reinstatement and posting a 4.05 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 6.2 innings. Treinen has one more year left on his contract with the Dodgers, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be ready for the start of spring training in February of 2027.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Braves' Brent Suter: Excels as opener

Suter took a no-decision Saturday against Miami, allowing one hit and no walks in three shutout innings. He struck out three.

Suter got the start in a bullpen game and wasn't expected to work particularly deep into the outing, but he did log a team-high three frames Saturday. The crafty lefty should be a major multi-inning weapon out of the Atlanta bullpen this postseason -- he's recorded at least one strikeout in 10 consecutive appearances. Since joining Atlanta, he has a 1.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 27.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Bradley Blalock: Ineffective in long relief

Blalock took a no-decision Saturday against Atlanta, striking out three while allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in 3.1 relief innings.

With the Marlins going with a bullpen game Saturday, Blalock ate some innings as the bulk reliever but wasn't particularly effective. The right-hander hasn't pitched at least four frames in any of his four big-league outings this year, turning in a lone scoreless appearance. He's wrapping up the campaign with a 5.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB over 11.1 innings for Miami.

  • Pirates' Mason Montgomery: Blows third save Saturday

Montgomery (6-4) blew the save and took the loss Saturday as the Pirates fell 4-3 to the Tigers, giving up three runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

The southpaw was the seventh pitcher of the afternoon for Pittsburgh in a bullpen day, but Montgomery couldn't protect a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, instead watching Eduardo Valencia walk it off with a two-run homer. It was Montgomery's third blown save of the season and his first since becoming the Bucs' primary closer after the All-Star break, ending a stretch of 17 straight conversions. Montgomery boasts a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 103:26 K:BB in 67.2 innings during a breakout campaign.

  • Kyle Hart RP | SD

Padres' Kyle Hart: Optioned to ACL

The Padres optioned Hart to the Arizona Complex League on Saturday.

Hart will be pushed off the Padres' active roster in order to make room for Gavin Sheets (foot), who returned from the injured list Saturday. The 33-year-old southpaw will finish the season with a 4.92 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 64 innings with San Diego.

  • Padres' Griffin Canning: Back with big club

The Padres recalled Canning from the Arizona Complex League on Saturday.

Canning was pushed off the active roster Wednesday, but he'll rejoin the Friars' pitching staff as the replacement for Casey Mize (ankle), who landed on the injured list Saturday. Canning carries a 5.57 ERA through 85.2 innings in the majors this season but has been much more effective recently, allowing just one earned run in his last 14.2 frames.

  • Taylor Clarke RP | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Taylor Clarke: Opening Saturday

Clarke will serve as the opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Padres, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Clarke gave up two earned runs in one inning during his last outing Thursday, but the D-backs will send him to the mound to begin Saturday's game as they attempt to sneak into the final wild-card spot in the National League. He'll likely remain on the bump for an inning or two before coming out of the game.

  • Jack Ralston RP | MIA

Marlins' Jack Ralston: Drawing start in bullpen game

Ralston will start Saturday's game against Atlanta in Miami, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

The 29-year-old rookie right-hander will be making his first MLB start and his first start at any level of the professional ranks since 2022. Between his stops with Miami and Triple-A Jacksonville this season, Ralston hasn't tossed more than three innings, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the batting order Saturday before turning the game over to the Marlins bullpen.

  • Julian Aguiar RP | CHC

Cubs' Julian Aguiar: Claimed by Cubs

The Cubs claimed Aguiar off waivers from the Reds on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Aguiar was pushed off the Reds' 40-man roster after giving up two earned runs in three innings with Cincinnati and posting a 6.27 ERA at Triple-A, but he'll reclaim a roster spot upon joining his new organization. The 25-year-old won't be eligible to pitch for Chicago in the postseason, but he could be recalled to help preserve the team's bullpen during the final weekend of the regular season.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Braves' Brent Suter: Drawing start in bullpen game

Suter is slated to start Saturday's game against the Marlins in what's expected to be a bullpen day, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Suter hasn't recorded more than 11 outs in any of his prior 53 appearances on the campaign, so despite drawing the start Saturday, he's unlikely to pitch deep enough into the contest to qualify for a win. Atlanta hasn't designated a bulk reliever to pitch behind Suter, but Elieser Hernandez hasn't been used since being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday and could be called upon to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen.
