Coach Nate McMillan said Tuesday that Okongwu (shoulder) will practice 5-on-5 with the Skyhawks this week, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

McMillan said the Hawks are trying to slowly build Okongwu up, and after a couple of practices, they will see if he can play in a G League game. Just a week ago, McMillan said that there was no timetable for his return from shoulder surgery, so this is great news for Atlanta. When Okongwu eventually makes his return to NBA action, he will likely compete with Gorgui Dieng for the top backup role behind starting center Clint Capela.
