Thornton has joined the D-League Maine Red Claws, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reports.
Thornton, who drafted in the second round this past June by the Celtics, just completed his season with the Sydney Kings of Australia, and will head back stateside to get in some more court time. Since Thornton hasn't officially signed his rookie contract with the Celtics and isn't on the team's 15-man roster, he'll likely have to wait until 2016-17 to get a shot at playing in the NBA.
